Motor Insurance Database
Discussion
I received a letter yesterday warning that my 911 was not registered on the MID.
It transpires that the specialist broker that I used, highly recommended on here, had neglected to register the policy on the database!!
Hopefully this is a one off but it only takes a minute to check your entry: http://www.askmid.com/

Takes ages for my specialist broker to register mine also. Its a PITA as the TAX was due shortly after and i couldn't do it online, as such i queued up at the post office and i have taken the hit of an increased cost 6 month disk so hopefully it will be in the system by tax time in future. Other than that couldn't be happier with the insurance
We have used that website before to check insurance on cars.
My understanding is that the police system that checks road side etc (ANCP?) is linked to the same source they use. Whilst you may well be insured, you would get stopped and then have to spend time whilst they ring the insurance company and so on. Worth while checking if your car does come up.

Thanks for posting.
Tried to get a chip repaired in my windscreen and had a message left for me today from Autoglass to say the insurance co had no record of my car being insured!
Just checked and its showing as insured.
You dodged a bullet there mate. Autoglass? What are you thinking?Tried to get a chip repaired in my windscreen and had a message left for me today from Autoglass to say the insurance co had no record of my car being insured!

What's amazing is you can buy an insurance policy fair and square and then be subjected to a humiliating stop and maybe even have your car lifted by some fat thug unless you can prove you're insured!
We know the database isn't accurate yet they still legally cause you massive hardship if 'computer says no'
Sure we want to get uninsured scum off the roads but we need a production strength system to register insurance.
Imagine if the same bozos who dreamed up this hobby system were doing credit card transaction data.
Makes me mad.

Was that HT by any chance? I got pulled by a police interceptor with ANPR about 2 months after I took out my policy with them as my car flagged as not being insured. Annoyingly it was outside of office hours so nobody there to take call and I got given a producer. Called HT next day though, and they said it was Aviva's fault but that they'd chase them on it.It transpires that the specialist broker that I used, highly recommended on here, had neglected to register the policy on the database!!

Now, if the broker hasn't submitted the details to the insurer, then that's another thing entirely!
If that's the case, are you insured...???Few years ago now but upon renewal of my 3 series coupe, the insurer said they didi not know me or my car. Transpires the broker had pocketed the money and I had been uninsured for a year!
Obviously pre ANPR and MID. Apparently this guy had been doing it to a lot of people.................
Makes you think......
Then this year, the offshore telephone centre 'forgot' to change/enter my details so was uninsured (technically this time) for about 6 weeks until I rang UK about another issue and discovered I was insured on the car I had sold 6 weeks previously but not on my current one!
NEVER, ever use offshore call centres. If you get one and ask to be out through to a UK operator, they have to do it. It is a legal obligation.
I just will not use companies that do not have UK based operations now.
