997 PCM Back Lights

Has anybody any idea why the back lights on my PCM buttons may decide to work when they feel like it. They have always worked fine but the last week i can use the car one night & everything is fine then the night after they do not come on which makes it difficult to operate in the dark. Screen is fine as is the operation of the PCM.
