Noise measurement comparison , Zandvoort :static v.drive by.
Discussion
Interested in going over to Zandvoort for a trackday this year, the day involves a noise test which has a rating of 88dB at 20 metres.
I take it this is a drive by reading taken on the track?
How does a Gt3 at 104dB static ( 5000 rpm) compare, does anyone have any data to avoid a wasted or hassled trip?
All the trackdays I have been on involved a static test although most tracks measure drive by now but I don't know what their cutoff is in the UK, anyone know if 104 equates to 88 drive by?? ( appreciate the distance has to be similar)

Can't tell you if 104db at a standstill is 88db at 20m, but I have been to Zandvoort many times (live 20 mins away) in my old Exige and Elise both of which were fitted with a Lotus Stage 2 exhaust measuring around 102db at a standstill and passed the drive-by tests at Zandvoort.
Not been there in the Cayman (with sports exhaust) yet but also planning to do so this year at some point.

You can't really make a useful static vs driveby noise comparison.
I was at Zandvoort last year with 3 other GT3's: my 996 MK2 was running a standard exhaust, there was a 996 MK2 Manthey K410, a 997.1 & a 997.2 RS - they all failed on the driveby whereas I was OK. When we get measured for static noise in the UK, I'm often the noisiest - consistently 105dB. All tripping the meter meant in practice was they had to take the long righthander before the start/finish straight (where the noise meter is located) a gear higher than optimal (4th not 3rd iirc). Zandvoort are much more reasonable about noise than some UK circuits (you know who you are) where there are no second chances.

I've always been put off at Zandvoort because of the noise but have since heard that 964RS's and Cups and GT3's can drive there
Would be v interested to hear more about the day Mike since my car has some podium results there in the Carrera Cup and Porsche-Ferrari Challenge -I feel it would be rude not to!!
