Trying to buy a car!
Discussion
Last Friday I took my Gen 1 RS to the local OPC for an MOT. Got talking to one of the sales team and asked for a PX price against a new 991. He said that he would call me on Monday to discuss. Still waiting for a call!
Two weeks ago I spoke to my local BMW dealer and requested a two day test drive in an M3. Not a problem let me source a car and give you a call. Sent an email reminder last week but still no call.
I have dealt with both of these dealerships for years. Not only to buy cars for myself but also for my business. Both dealership representatives know me reasonable well. In the case of the BMW one I bought two cars of them last year. Is the economy that bad or is it a lack of motivation from employees.

I don't know why but this type of behaviour from all manner of dealers appears to be on the increase. I've experienced a similar lack of interest from at least 3 different dealers in recent years, including Porsche and Honda. And since I'm of mature years and reasonably well-attired, I would like to think I don't give out the wrong impression.

When I was looking recently to have a major service done on my Cayman Cambridge OPC never replied to my query.
When I was buying my Cayman over the summer, I asked Hatield to send me a break-down on a finance quote for a car. They never bothered.
In both instances East London replied quickly, and in both instances East London got my business.

Its staggering isn't it. Is it because they have had so many years of easy trading they have forgot how to use the phone. They must miss out on so many impulsive buyers like this, but I think in the main most dealers are like this. I bought a Honda CRZ for work and the salesman rang me back when I wanted, answered my questions, was sensible on the price, so I bought it. Not to complicated. This does seem to be a rarity though. Maybe we should name the good guys out there? With regards to Porsche, Dean at Leeds worked hard for me when I bought mine.
oddly I was thinking the opposite, in the past when Ive made a web based query if I got a 50% response I would be surprised. The other week I did the same via the Porsche used car search and the three dealers contacted me within hours - all were very helpful and I bought a car from one. Same with a usef Audi at a lexus dealer at the weekend, called back straight away and I bought the car - theres a moral there somewhere!
I've rang around for about 5 - 6 cars since Christmas.
One called me back........ thank God I'm not the only one this has happened to. I thought maybe I was sounding like a real chav over the phone and they just wern't taking me seriously.
Actually, thinking about it, maybe I do sound like a chav.

This is such a pet hate of mine.
Being in the sales industry, I have to fight tooth and nail to generate my own sales opportunities. I just cannot believe the amount of incompetence encountered when dealing with some of these people.
Unless the car is the exact one for you, I just end up thinking 'Well screw you, if you can't be bothered to take my money I'll find somebody who will'
On the same subject, it really frustrates me when you see a car advertised that is quite a distance away. Normally would book a visit but due to distance ask more qualifying questions etc before deciding to go and have a look. I often ask things like tread depths and to get a couple of up close pictures of the car - you would not believe the amount of people that simply cannot be bothered to do it and just simply say 'Come and have a look, I'm sure you'll like it'
Yes, I'm sure I will but you're 200 miles away FFS! Sort it out and give some proper, old fashioned customer service!!!!!!

I had this over the weekend too! Although there is a local car that I'd prefer to get in to, I noted another potential at a reasonable price at a performance car specialist, about 200 miles away.Being in the sales industry, I have to fight tooth and nail to generate my own sales opportunities. The images are their site were really low res, so I called and asked if they could possibly email me the original images that they would have had on file, prior to compressing and putting online.
..."photos won't show you anything, you'll need to come see the car".....oh, and it's not a new car.
Tell you what, email me across the images and I'll make that decision thanks.
It does frustrate me - like it or not, there's a certain amount of effort, service expectation and customer orientation required when retailing such high value products!
