OK im not about to start talking about buying part worn tyres so don't worry! I have recently had to replace one of the rear tyres on my CS due to puncture so replaced both rears as per my usual drill. However, the tyre on the other side still has 6mm of tread on it (and is the same brand and N rating as the new ones). If i keep this and store it is there any specific conditions they should be stored in? do the deteriorate after a time and if so how long? my thought was that if i end up with another rear puncture and the tyres are down to about 6mm I can reuse it. Am i insane or sensible?

Sounds fairly sensible to me;Rubber certainly does perish and deteriorate after a while, timescales will vary according to:
1) How old they are already (there should be a manuafacture date code moulded into the sidewall)
2) The conditions they are stored under.
As for (2), I'm not sure what the optimum storage conditions are but I'm guessing inside a house is probably as good as you'll get (probably on its side).
