Anyone got any tips on how to cure the paint bubbling on a 996 GT3 RS carbon bonnet. I've had the bonnet painted twice in the past but the bubbles keep coming back.

I'm thinking about getting the bonnet wrapped in vinyl but still not sure if this would work.

Porsche did replace a load early on due to this problem. I know it can be fixed but the bonnet has to be stripped right back, the resin resealed and then painted. Just flatting out the bubbles and painting over doesn't solve the underlying problem.

First talk to Porsche and see if they will still honor the problem as they were aware of it and sorted a few early on then try as specialist with experience in Carbon such as Specialised Paintwork in Reading (located behind PCGB).

The problem is due to moisture getting through the underside of the bonnet. Try and keep the car dry when not in use.

A friends body shop has lacquered the inside of a few RS bonnets to try and stop the moisture,

From what he said it helps a lot but isn't perfect as you can'y get in behind the bracing but does help.

Thanks for all your comments.

Porsche did repaint the bonnet a few years back but I dont think the body shop lacquered the underside of the bonnet.

So are you saying its air getting underneath the paint through the underside of the bonnet causing the bubbles?

Mine has done it too, best left alone imo as its a sign of originality(even though its a poor effort by Porsche).

It also happened to mine.

I had the impression that they were larger when damp and smaller when dry, and the car lived out all the time.

I believe it's the moisture in the air and the bonnet being porous as it's not sealed from the inside.

These are they guy's I referred to earlier www.sprcoachworks.co.uk I'm sure if you called them they'd let you know what they'd done in the past and if it was successful
