Is it true that when you change a private number plate back to its origanal number it adds a owner to log book ??? im sure this cannot be true, but do not know for certain what do you think ????

It shouldn't but, being a government related agency, the DVLA have been known to make a mistake or two.

It doesn't officially add an owner however when I bought my 996 from ebay (it still works by the way), it stated that it had 11 previous owners on the automatically filled in "item specifics" section. I ran an Hpi check and it showed that the car has actually had 5 previous owners and 6 plate changes.

Fairly misleading and might explain why the car went as cheap as it did (I have already mentioned that it still works!)

Don't assume that HPi's data is 100% reliable - as they collect their data from places like the DVLA there's actually more chance of HPi data being wrong than DVLA's (although both make mistakes occasionally).

I've had private plates since 1988 and never had a transfer reflected as a change of owner. However, I have known sellers try to 'pass off' multiple past ownerships as regiistration transfers.
