S5008 / 096 BOSCH SILVER PLUS Car Battery 12V 77Ah
(Short Code: S5008)
(BOSCH DIN: 577 400 078)

5 Years Warranty

Specifications & Dimensions (mm)
Voltage - 12V
Capacity - 77Ah
CCA (EN) - 780A
278L x 175W x 190H

 Very high cranking at 780Amp

The S4 is also suitable but lower cranking power, either of these battery's are well up to the job for your car. The only down side is if you require a Porsche warranty at any stage of ownership .

Interesting - mine is obviously suffering at 4 years old and with the cold weather, so I've been looking too! I'm going to measure mine as Euro car parts list an S5 010 against my registration number (for a 2008 C2S) and that's 85Ah with 800CCA (cold cranking amps)!! smile

I'll only buy Bosch anyway, because I've had a trusty old Subaru WRX for years and it never used to hold it's charge for more than a week and never burst into life with much enthusiasm. So whenever I went on holiday I had to disconnect it (really not good for tracking it - if it were to be knicked).
So after lots of standard Subaru / Halfrauds batteries - I bought a Bosch Silver! There is no going back! It keeps its charge for weeks on end and bursts into life with a mere flick of the key - the starter motor spinning harder - but for so much less time!

Were they wearing masks and went under the name of Turpin by any chance?

whistle I know OPC's charge a bit - but £253.55 seems like an awful lot of profit on a battery ...

I doubt they get them for free but still, it's pricey. But then again, it's got a Porsche logo on it.

Oh I meant to say if they're charging £253.55 for supplying and fitting a battery, then they're bound to be making an awful lot of profit on it. (Estimated costs; £50 for the battery and £5 for fitting etc - so £200 profit or 460%)???? smile

For replacing a battery!!! We replaced ours yesterday - took all of 5 minutes...

That's a labour rate of over £2500 per hour.

When the car would not turn over I got Porsche Assist to come out and the nice RAC man used the booster to get it started and I took it for run to get up to temperature so he could run his checks. Battery measured good charge up by the run and he could only measure less than an amp drain with interior lights on. His sonic screwdriver thingy told him the battery was OK but I was not convinced. Anyway, he recommended getting the battery replaced as it was coming up for 5 years old. I took it to the dealer and told them I would like a new battery. They did the "its not a simple as that sir, we will need to do full investigation to determine what the problem is" routine, hence the labour charge.

Yeah, I probably paid more than I could have, but I need the OEM battery for the warranty and I did need to know that it was definitely the battery which was the problem. Actually when I enquired about the cost of a new battery they initially quoted £316!!

OPC warranty is a ransom but I like the peace of mind should anything big go wrong

Not quite. If you push them they should confirm that it's not a requirement of the warranty. What they may say is that should a subsequent fault occur that is attributed/linked to a non-standard battery than that portion of any claim will be void. That's wot mine sed!
