Luxury problems...

Have owned a 993 as a second car for a year or so - fed up of only being able to use it on dry weekends

Now looking for a porsche to use everyday.

Drove both the Cayman S and the 997 this week...

Love the way the Cayman S is happy to be chucked into corners.

911 feels more refined and comfortable - perhaps better for commute.

Have £30k to spend - where's the wise money to be spent? Anyone using either of these every day and what should i be looking at 911 wise on this budget?!

Thanks!

Question you have to ask yourself is, it's a second car BUT will you ever need to fit 3 people in it?

Caymna S is about as close to a 993 as you can get.

weight size power etc.

Are you keeping the 993? If not, what's stopping you using it?

I had the same dilemma, it was to be my first porka though, set myself a limit of 40k, test drove a few 997's around the 35k mark and then drove a gen 1 cayman's at 27k absolutely loved it so bought it and money in the bank it had to be a guards red one as I am sad lol so I was limited for choice.

I am thoroughly enjoying it but something keeps niggling at me that it is not a 911.

I did a similar exercise with about the same budget and preferring the Cayman S I consequently bought one. The 911 I would consider swopping for though is a 997 GT3.

+1
if its already you 2nd car keep the 993 and use the 1st when it rains... cayman / 997 both great but 993 has so much more class!

I had no idea that were that bad, aren't they galvanized in any way ? It kind of defeats the object of owning such a wonderful car in the UK, so I can see the point of wanting a new car.

I owned a Cayman S for 3 years, then a 997 for 3 years.

Both are fantastic, but my vote would be 997.

Thanks for the responses!

Maybe i'll keep the 993 and couple with something more spirited as a daily driver.

Will keep you updated.

PS love my 993 too much to use it everyday - it's not a daily drive given my mileage

The only thing that I will say to the OP is that as you have already owned a 911 you have already satisfied that yearning and could well be very happy with the cayman s, mine has nothing to do with the quality/fun of the drive it is just that thing you have always wanted not quite being fulfilled. I have a mate who has owned a dozen 911's over many years and now has a gen 2 cayman s, he absolutely loves it and rates the drive better than any of his 911's, half the reason I ended up with one lol.

True, the front end doesn't pogo in the Cayman. ;-)
