Hi, looking for some advise on 996 GT3s as I am going to look at one this weekend as a possible car to replace the 355 Spider I currently have.

Is there anything in particular to look out for on these cars?

What are they like to run? Are there any big bills that you can expect to see on them?

I'm not bothered about practicality as it will be just a weekend toy.

Are there many owners on here that can share their experience of these beasts?

Cheers
Jonty

Hi,

You looking at a MK1 or MK2?

Service history and original panels should be top of your list IMO.

All 996's are getting on a little so check the normal things have been changed or are in good condition

Brakes
Shocks and springs
Clutch
Diff
All Rads
Bushes

To name a few things..

I can only say get out there and drive a few, from what I have heard the MK1 is a rawer car than the MK2.

And any one on here owned a MK1 and then gone into a MK2 who can give advise on the difference?

Great cars, just make sure you buy the right one....

Some questions i asked prior to buying mine. I was able to get a list together by googling 996 GT3 and picking bits up here and there from various forums/items that have gone wrong etc

The car I am looking at is a Mk2 factory clubsport in Speed Yellow.

I've driven a few 911s before and they felt quite bland in comparison to the ferrari, but then the ferrari is so fragile, so I'm looking for a compromise.

Cheers for the link.

The car I'm looking at comes with an extended Porsche warranty. Seemed lots of mixed opinions about it. Would you say its worth much or not? Do you know what it covers?

Jonty welcome to the porker side.

If i was you to avoid abuse and negative posts, i would have a quick google search with a pistonheads tag and look into the warranty situation, its quite an indepth complex subject, which is very subjective, but there is plenty of information readily available out there. Read as much as you can and then make an informed choice that works for your needs.

If it is the car I see on PH does it have A/C IMHO this is a must have especially for resale!
I have owned a 355 and currently have a Mk2 GT3, the Ferrari will always feel more special to drive than the Pork but you will get more use out of the Gt3. The Gt3 is a truly great car.
Get car carefully checked out a good few things to watch out for.
