Surely tyres are the single most important factor for lateral grip so the test is comparing a car on soft Cup tyres to a car on road tyres, with results being meaningless.

Shocker more expensive 911 GT3 beats Cayman R.

If you have the money a GT3 isn't worlds apart second hand v a new Cayman R.

Real world road driving it would be closer still.

The 997 GT3 is still more desirable and will cheaper to own longer term!

+ 1 the Cayman would have killed the GT3 if it were on the same tyres.

A most stupid test.

OK, so how hard would it have been to fit the same tyres and a geo set-up to match each car to the task in hand ?

These guys were looking for the result they got, --- just a big waste of time.

I find the spin out test the most useful. witness the amount of grip the Gt3 has compared with the CR.

I have always said that you needed to be a great driver to fully engage with the Gt3.

most people buy it for the noise, built quality and race car engineering but to get the tail mobile, you have got to be properly committed......see the speed difference at the threshold?

OK, not scientific but ...

964RS at Shell Oils Oulton Park on Toyo R888's --- 1.30g

993RS at Shell Oils Oulton Park on Pilot Sport Cups --- 1.50g.

Anything over 1.0g on a street tyre is very good, the Cup should have been better by quite a long way ... Michelin could tell us ... but there is no " Lateral G" to be found on their website, so I guess they consider there to be no bench mark vehicle to test this ...
