Basalt Black Stone Chips
Discussion
.. My current car is Basalt Black... first black car ever.... Mint low mileage car, that has now one very annoying stone chip/scratch on drivers door...You know the type that stares you out as you walk upto and get into the car....
Been told I have to have (at least) the whole door painted to rectify... is this right? seems a bit ott for one chip......
Same bodyshop removed a much bigger scratch on my previous Artic Silver car no problem... completely vanished. For some reason they dont want to do it on much smaller scratch/chip.....
Is there something special about Basalt Black? .... any tips?
Thanks

I'd say the catch is that you do have to follow the instructions and the result is as good as the care and attention you put into doing the job ie if you take no notice of the instructions and rush the job then you'll end up with a bad result. I've found results very good. I'm very particular and I've found that it will work well with quite deep stone chips but not so well on very shallow ones. It also doesn't work so well with fine scratches.
Had the same thing on my old C2S in Basalt Black, whole front end paintshield filmed and I get a chip on the bloody door!
Had the whole door resprayed, only way to make it perfect.
That was my first and last black car, never again! Looked great when clean, but seemed to last that way for about a minute!

Any news?
Well the Kit has arrived and will be doing it on Saturday, as the weather and Temp seems to be warming up! There are a few quick videos on you tube too that I've watched and the process seems fairly straightforward. Have a chip on the rear PU near the rear wheel so will do a first test on that! Then onto the door. will take Before and After images and let you know

If the results are good, I think the company should reimburse you for the cost of the kit in return for the advertising they are getting!
