Boxster as a company car?
Discussion
Hi all,
I've just got my first job with a company car allowance. I'd been looking at a Honda S2000, but thinking I might put a little more money towards it and get something a step further up the ladder - which lead me to the Boxster.
Anyone here run them as a compay car? I'll be doing c. 30,000 miles pa, is this perfectly feasable in a Boxster? What kind of mpg am I likely to return on motorway runs in a std 2.7?
Cheers.

As H says, the mileage is no problem for the Boxster. However, 30K miles is a lot of motorway driving and a sports car isn't necessarily the right tool for that job. Sports cars are noisy and have a harder ride. When going to a meeting, you don't want to be stressed out because of your chariot. I love my Boxster as much as anyone else here, but if it were my money, as it needs to be a business tool, i would go for a motorway muncher like a Beemer or Audi - more boring but easier for business.
Some people are happy to do this mileage in a Boxster but you need to remember that this is for your work, not just for pleasure.
That may seem strange coming from a Boxster-phile, but thats why I have both a Beemer AND a Boxster. Ones for business, ones for pleasure.
Plus - turning up at a customer in a Porsche can sometimes be a bit of a hindrance if you are trying to sell them something. ;-)

Consider the depreciation with putting a high mileage on a Boxster also.
Unfortunately 'most' of the Boxsters out there keep a relatively low mileage as they arent the daily runner for most people, so when you go to trade it in, you will be penalised accordingly. Just a fact of life.

Just seen your Boxster for sale on e-bay. Fallen out of love with it then?
Colin
Fallen out of love? No Way!!
I've just moved house, have 2 expensive cars and need realize some cash (30K+) to do some house maintenance. The Beemer will be my chariot as it will be the "family" car.
It is with a very heavy heart that I do this, but it just makes sense.
The house is a priority, the Box a luxury....

I was probably not recommend it for 30K a year.
As said, for longer than 2 hours I get out feeling like and looking like quasimodo.
On motorways, maybe 300 miles to a tank. But you will get through tyres too.
And the temptation to cane it attracts the boys in blue.
Oh, and arriving at a clients in a Porsche will not help your cause.
But an Audi S4 will never return more than 20mpg!!!

I ran my last Boxster S as my only car and did lots of Company miles in it. My current Boxster S started out life as my only car (apart from the Chimaera
) but has now been supplemented with a cheap Vectra.
If you take the car allowance I strongly advise going down the two car route. The Box will work perfectly well - I've done HUGE journeys in it and its fine...but it won't feel special quickly...and you won't like where you have to park it...and you'll tire of not being able to carry garden waste to the tip and so on.
So as Simon suggested: a Boxster and a repectable runner is a good compromise.
