Worn rear rear tyres and twitchy rear end
Discussion
HI Boxster fans,
My 2000 Boxster S seems very twitchy at the back when driving. The tyres are inflated okay and the wear is even across them, both front and rear. The rears are worm down to around the legal limit according to a non-Porsche specialist tyre shop, with wear at the front being fine. Can anyone offer advice on what's likely to be the cause of my twitchy-feeling rear end - mis-alignment, tyre wear or something else?
Cheers.... Chris.

So fully worn rear tyres then, and you're wondering why the back end feels twitchy?!
Get them changed before something bad happens. I tend to change mine when they hit 2.5mm, anything lower and the back end starts moving too much for my liking.

I changed mine today, even excusing the fact that they've still got the release agent on the grip level is noticeably better, and that's only with a set of RE050As. It makes a nice change being able to get the power down for a change!
Greasy and cold road surfaces won't help matters either though.

If you are running summer tyres during this time of year the back-end can twitch even on fresh rubber.
I ran PS2 summer tyres last year (on 19s) and it was an edgy experience in Dec/Jan. I sm on winter tyres this year, no twitching thus far.
I would say get fresh summer rubber fitted now and if you need to run it through winter next year, plan to swap them come Nov for some winter tyres.

Err... yes. Tread helps all the time, although those tyres with very large treadblocks can feel a little unsettling at first if you're not used to them.
i thought the fastest tyre in the dry would be a slick tyre due to it providing the maximum contact area with the groundGassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
