Hi all,

Had my 98 996 out for a good few runs yesterday. Did a couple of long drives and then some short runs to the shops and back. Now I pulled up in the driveway and let the car sit for about 5 mins. Came back out to use it and saw a puddle under the front of the car. Looks like it was emanating from between the front wheels. Didn't smell of coolant.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Thanks guys.

Didn't have it set on auto or anything. Just leave it at 20.5 on the manual mode.

taste it- coolant has a distinctive smell. What colour was it? Have you checked all your levels?

Didn't smell like coolant. All levels appeared fine when I checked them the next evening. Where are the most common areas for coolant to leak, so I have a rough idea for future reference?

Thanks

The problem with a 996 is the radiators are in the front and the engine is in the back, so coolant goes the whole length of the car. Even if you know where the leak is, it drips into the under trays and leaks where they join under the car, so you can never tell exactly where it is coming from?

The most common areas for coolant leaks are in front of the front wheels although it has been known for the central pipe to rub through in the middle of the car.

If your puddle was directly below where the middle of the bottom of the windscreen/dash is then it is most likely to be condensation from the A/C.

I did notice this morning when I left the house that there was a puddle near the right hand side of the exhaust. I put my fingers in it but again no smell of coolant... had a lubricated feel to it but was not oil.

if you've decided it's not coolant why are you still looking for coolant leaks. It's condensation.

Well it seems like I was mistaken (and obviously have no sense of smell) but the drip at the rear of my car is infact coolant! Off to the Indy it goes.

Thanks
