Hi guys

Got a phone call today from OPC Guildford advising me that my Boxster is due a minor service in March.

They have quoted me £480 Inc vat.

Car is a 55 plate boxster S mileage 24k, nothing needs to be done just service and book stamped

Is that a good price ? And would you haggle about the price ?

They even offered a round of golf for two people while the car is serviced.

Any advise much appreciated

Thanks

Ps have offered £149 for a Swiss Vax Valet, would you ?

£480 is the standard price for the minor service, but it does not include the oil and brake fluid change which are also usually needed at the same time.
It is very difficult to haggle with the standard price but you can make savings on the oil change by providing your own oil (costco do it for a reasonable price - 9 litres will be needed).

Also as its your 6 year service i think a drive belt replacement will be needed (get them to throw this in for free).

I just got my Cayman S serviced from Mid Sussex OPC (Peter Rowe) who was very helpful and knew exactly what was needed (its surprising how some OPCs omit the drive belt change) and was very receptive at beating quotes from other OPCs... the cherry on the cake was i was given a Carrera 4GTS as a loan car, some great A&B roads near Mid Sussex and Brighton biggrin

The £480 includes the oil, but not the brake fluid.

Ask them for a discount - I got 30% off my last service (major/spark plugs/brake fluid) with one phone call.

I did get a Tiguan 2.0 Tdi Automatic as a loan car, but then again I got to keep £300 in my wallet.

you're right about the oil... have memory like a goldfish frown
i would agree that you should be able to get a discount by asking some OPCs are not very receptive whereas others will be more accommodating.

It may also be worth checking out the blog for the following member 'ChipsAndCheese'. Has some very good advice about his last service and a good comprehensive breakdown.

I managed to get a quote for 300 pounds from opc reading for a minor service for my 996. I think you can haggle a fair amount. Good luck !

Can I find out what I should expect for a 60k service? Just purchased a 2006 cayman S last yr and it's due a service soon but the website prices are being "refreshed"...

OPC Reading & Swindon would be my closest dealerships - hopefully they are good...

60k/6 year service should be a minor service + drive belt change, and likely a brake fluid change too.
List price at OPC Hatfield was £480 for the service + £97 for the drive belt + £150 for the brake fluid change. Though if you read my ownership log below, you can see that I got all of that done for £485 after negotiation and providing my own oil.

You might want to ask the parts department what discount they will give you on the oil & then to walk across to the service dept with your discounted oil & tell to 'use this'! - My OPC normally gives me a surprisingly decent discount on the oil wink

Better than £58 for 10 litres from Costco? If so I may need to employ this tactic in future.

£58 from Costco is certainly better than the £125 the OPC charges for oil in their service list prices, but I am always keen to hear about a better deal if there is one to be had!

I was quoted £480 for the service, £150 for brake fluid and £85 for drive belt ( 6 year service - Cayman S ).

This my local OPC, I managed a small discount and got it for £640 all in.

They also cleared out the radiators, drain holes ( included in service ) and replaced a couple of coil packs under warranty.

Probably could have got it a bit cheaper at an indie but I have no complaints with the service.

I'm not sure I can beat Costco, but then I don't have to drive to get it, just ask the parts guy to walk to the desk where the service guy sits & there is some mild satisfaction in letting someone else make the effort to save you money! biggrin

Hi

Got a quote from OPC Guildford who's original price was £480 Inc vat which included a free round of golf, after ping pong emails they agreed to £500 to include drive belt change. I then noticed the drive belt was changed on the last major service in March 2010 (5k miles ago ) so dont need belt change.

I then found out about a brake fluid change at a cost of £150 on top off £480.

Spoke to Peter at OPC Mid Sussex very helpful, very friendly offered to do service for £480 Inc vat and chuck in the brake fluid change plus courtesy car.

Good deal or not ?

Just a suggestion, Was the drive belt definately replaced at the 4 year major service as it is usually just a check and a tick in the service book. Usually, either checked/replaced is crossed out in the book.

Unless the car is under warranty, those prices are nothing short of insane when you know how little work is involved.

Managed to get a quote from OPC Reading for a 60k service, 750 for oil/brake/drive belt change negotiated down to 675 or 550 if i provide my own oil.

Swindon quoted 715 but yet to be negotiated.

These are apparently the new fixed price menu that is not yet available on the website.

Have to change a couple of rear tyres at the same time so going to see if i can negotiate further but would these be reasonable?

Currently on the 2 yr approved used so have to stick with OPC

Assuming the new service prices have gone up from before, then £550 isn't terrible. Do provide your own oil. Get it from Costco for about £58 and you'll have a couple of litres left over whereas OPC will charge you £125 for the same oil, but for only the exact amount they use.

Don't get your tyres through the OPC, they will be massively overpriced and are unlikely to be able to match online retailers. Assuming the approved used warranty is similar to the extended warranty, you do not need to use OPC for your tyres to keep to the warranty agreement. So long as the fitting is up to standard and you use the same brand of N rated tyres all around, you can get anyone to fit the tyres.
