IF the GT2 has to go - which 'super' estate?
Discussion
Believe me I would not be selling the GT2 unless I had to, having come from a B5 MTM RS4 I'm certainly going to go back to a super estate...
Which would you guys pick and which ones have you got or owned...
My list of cars is at 4 are -
B7 RS4 (and pocket some cash)
M5 Tourer (and pocket some cash)
New shape RS6
C63 AMG
or
RS4 and super charge it to 600
I've always been an 'RS' fan.
I think the C63 is prettier than the M5, better soundtrack, but maybe not as involving, and more expensive.
RS6 is the least aggressive i think and whilst it appears to have the performance edge, in reality its a big old beast and i dont think real world there is much between them.
Any of you guys had an comparisons of owning 1 or a couple of them.
I loved the B5, had it 3 years and it was quick with 460hp...but i'd like something a bit newer..

Never really been into sports 4x4 such as X6M, Chay turbo or RRS V8
B5 looks the nuts...but too costly i think.
I wont be plunging anymore cash into a car unless someone convinces me that a 997 turbo is an enjoyable alternative, taking into consideration putting / pulling kids from the rear every day!

Probably a new shape RS6 for me, if it was for everyday use..... M5 Touring, if just for the weekends, with a bit of cash left over.
Nice Monkey Harris RS6 review.....

Another comparison article by MH, if a little older and for the American market.
Good read though

Yeah pretty good review - thanks for that.
There is one nagging point about the RS6 and he mentions it - too subtle, RS4's have it right in terms of stance. RS6 struggles to look like and 'RS' variant.
I like a car that when I look back at it it looks aggressive and purposeful - the RS6 just doesnt cut it in standard trim. I've seen a few ibis white ones with black grills, wheels and 700hp which I think I could entertain though!

Not keen on the older 'bug eyed' E63...
having just looked at the classified there arent many E63 estates around tbh.... prices would appear to be similar to C63 though.
08 RS6's and C63's are v similar price wise, M5's are alot of car for money at circa 25k and RS'4 for a low as 20k...
Its going to be a v tough choice. Not a bad choice to be making but even so one i'd rather not.
Considered a 2k mondeo and the 996, but i did this when I had the cerbera and tbh i never ended up driving the cerbera hence me getting an RS4 back then.

guyvert1 - that was considered but I'd want a mint one, cams checked / replaced and lowish mileage. Your getting close to B7 money but the upside of exclusivity and a more tunable engine....
A good friend has just bought a mint RS6 for 11k, standard, but it really is excellent wiht the new RS6' 20's on it.

Previously owned a C5 RS6 and have to say the car was awesome. Look amazing value now to buy but shudder to think about running costs of these cars now they are that bit older. Have always fancied a newer RS4 - the YouTube footage of the supercharged one is mental!(hope you don't miss the GT2 too much - I know I couldn't part with mine.)A good friend has just bought a mint RS6 for 11k, standard, but it really is excellent wiht the new RS6' 20's on it.
i've had two v10 RS6's (an early '08 and a late '10 model) and they make a very accomplished daily driver, but they really feel all their two tonne weight and are a bit numb when pressing on. i've also had an early v10 M5 which was a lot of fun to drive and they are getting very cheap now. however as a daily driver they feel a lot more dated that the Audi. i now have a '10 E63 wagon (6.3 normally aspirated V8 - 525hp, more horses than the C63 but same engine that features in the C, E, SLS, SL and SLS) and it's a truely fabulous car. as fast as the Audi (it's a bit lighter), much more charismatic engine, handles as sweetly as the M5, much superior gearbox, nicely damped ride, and the nicest interior and most modern tech of all three. the most expensive too i appreciate, but thats partly because it's a much newer car. also it's the most economical surprisngly, i get low 20's in daily use, it's quite highly geared (mid teens in the M5 and high teens in the RS6). there aren't many E63's for sale, most if not all are in the MB dealer network, the cheapest so far was sold by MB Brooklands a shade below 50k i believe.
JamieG - I will undoubtedly miss it loads!!!
It was my dream 911 and still is my favourite of the whole range tbh. There isnt a finer arse in automotive history!
Even after 2 years when I look out the wing mirrors the arch intakes and rear wing make me giddy!
Thanks for your views on the uber estates - youve had experience of most and my initial thoughts seem to match your experiences. M5 certainly appears to be excellent value currently, only a few years ago the tourers were significantly higher priced that the saloons but they are much closer now...which is good news for me!
