Just got a puncture in one rear Pirelli p-zero rosso 295/30/ZR18 after replacing them 3 months ago. No dealer I have contacted (including Porsche) have been able to source another as Pirelli say they have stopped making the tyre.

Just had to fork out for 4 new Continentals to get the car back on the road but have 3 Pirellis with plenty of tread left. Anyone know where i could get the additional tyre to make up the spare set?

Would have done if possible but large piece of metal sliced right through and imbedded inner rim of tyre.

Why don't you stick the remaining three on ebay? Do you really need a spare set?

Maybe you're right but a bunch of mates are talking about a lads trip to the Nurburgring and thought I could make use of them for that.

Got as far as having the car at my local main dealer on Monday morning as they confirmed they had a tyre. Then got a call later to say the only tyre they thought they had was no longer in the ware house. You may have got the last 2. Guess its worth contacting 911v to see if they have any more.

Ebay will be your best bet for a good used tyre.

Thanks, the one on Ebay is Y not ZR rates but not sure if this makes a difference as I doubt I'll be exceeding 186 that often. If Reading have 2 you would have thought Porsche Swindon would have known about that, doesnt say much for them really does it.

Anyone got contacts in the trade who can ask Pirelli why they have ceased production?

Y is the speed rating - and is correct for a Porsche. Is it an 'N' rated tyre? If so, then the Ebay one sound correct.

I have to admit ignorance with tyre specification but was under the impression that the N rating showed that it was Porsche approved and the number referred to how many tyre revision there had been 0-4. The Y being a speed rating as pointed out denoting tyre suitability to 186 mph (300kph). If the 996 turbo has a top speed in excess of that is Y still suitable even though I'll probably never get there? What's the tyre rating for cars that do >186?

No, the old Z rating was used for tyres over 155mph.

Since then, they apply a new rating of W or Y - Y being the fastest at 186MPH

Therefore tyres which are 'Z' rated will still have a Y as well.

For example - you would normally see a full rating along the lines of 295/35ZR18 106Y

This translates to: Z rated, 106 load and Y speed rating.
