Guys,

Just in the final stages of purchasing a car.

What's happening with HPI checks nowadays? - do they include outstanding finance?

Aware that I can run a check via the DVLA too.

This car has been on a private plate too - will the HPI bring up anything noted against an old plate?

Thanks,

HPi always include a finance check, and the result is covered by their indemnity cover (i.e. if the info they sell you is wrong they take responsibility for this, within whatever limits apply), which I think is standard with a retail check.

Experian is broadly similar.

The ones to watch are these text services advertised on TV - one has the phrase ".... text check - no worries" which is rather mis-leading. I think you'd have plenty of reasons to worry if you bought a car on the basis of their check and it turned out to have a load of finance owing for which you're now responsible. mad

Hpi check includes finance.

Other ones which will be up to around 12 quid wont IME.

HPI is a database, if they have not been advised of an interest in a vehicle their terms and conditions make it clear they are not liable for your loss, for instance log book or bill of sale loans where the lender is not obliged to inform them, ie the lender can take the car leaving you out of pocket for someone else's debt.

I think you will find that the RAC provides a full HPI check online. I remember getting 3 checks done for one fee.

Very quick and efficient - also tells you about previous registrations and any interest there may be outstanding on them.

As I spoke to HPI today I wont find anything I haven't already stated.

mycarcheck is the cheapest. And they used to be the only ones who include stolen and recovered check (not sure if still the case). Most others only tell you if registered stolen at the time of check.

However they perhaps don't include the finance check as mentioned. I always in the past have got rac or similar then the cheapest 5quid mycarcheck to cover against stolen and recovered.
