Could a good rebuilt 915 box with a LSD cope with 330/350 bhp in a 1000kg car
running 14" rear wheels , or would it be better to ditch this
box and go G50 but then have to deal with the expense of the fabrications needed?

Gentlemen your thoughts please?

Its more torque rather than the bhp thats the issue. I had a 305 bhp 3.6 993 engine running through a 915 in a 1000kg car. Had to rebuild the box and have a one piece bearing support plate made up. What engine are you planning on using? If it were me , I'd feel like I'd be asking alot of a 915. Obviously it will cope but I'd always be wondering for how long.
cheers

Was thinking 3.5 lt aprox 290lb/ft torque 340bhp mainly fast road use without caining it.
Reinforcing where ness and covering 4000 per year oil changes when needed.Don't really
fancy idea of making way for a G50 box and all the adjustments if there is not much gain.

I'd ask the question over on DDK where there are a lot of very beardy people!
Or ask Nick Fulljames of Redtek engineering.

I know of a 3.2 being rebuilt into a 3.5 with twin sparks, individual throttle bodies and Motec ECU by the top Porsche independent here in Sydney. I don't know what the power expectation is, but it's expected to be rather more than the standard 3.2. That car is keeping its 915 gearbox and no probs are expected.

I'd suggest talking to someone like Tuthill Porsche. When they rebuilt my 915 with LSD they carried out some of the mods they do for their rally cars which run to c. 300bhp, inc oversized bearing carrier etc.
They have experience of many 915s in high bhp applications, as will several other specialists
