Looking to buy a 997 Turbo
Discussion
Could someone give me an idea on running costs please:
Avg mpg:
Avg service cost:
Around what sort of mileage is a major service:
Tyres:
Cost of pads/discs:
What's folks opinions on buying from OPC?
Definitely a premium but you do get a 2 year warranty.
What about buying from the likes of 911 Virgin or RSJ? Decent independants with decent warranty?
Would bea Gen 1 so I guess 2006/07.
TIA
Gareth

Tyres: About £1,000 for all 4?
Don't know about the service costs yet as I have just bought mine. It's an 07 car and is not due another service until 2013 I think. Definitely go for the OPC as the warranty is well worth having. They might cost a bit more (but not that much) but you would want to be covered for that kind of car.
Hi Gareth, I have run a 997 Turbo for four years doing around ten thousand miles a year. The average milage around town has been 24 mph on a run 30 is achievable without trying. I would budget around £1200 To £1500 a year for tyres and servicing. Can not help with brake costs as mine in still on the same pads and discs ( ceramics). The running costs of these cars does not break the bank, I doubt you can buy a car with this performance that has smaller running costs.
The main consideration will be deprecation mine has cost me over ten grand for every year I have owned the car but is a known factor before purchase, like any car of this type you pay to play
If you are buying a series one car at around the fifty mark your depreciation costs will be less than mine (much less). In conclusion the running costs maintenance alone is not ball breaking , if you can afford the depreciation do not hesitate buy one today.

Hi
I have had a similar experience to those above, I only drive mine a couple of times every other month due to working abroad but I'm on a consistant 25mpg, which I find incredible with the performance, I do tend to do longer journeys though. I bought mine in September from an OPC, 57 plate and with actually 2 years and 4 months warranty due to them adding a year to the remaining warranty.
Mine is kept in a pro storage facility while I'm away and would be for sale if you're interested in a nice pampered one, I don't use it enough to justify keeping it really.

Avg mpg:I get around 17mpg mixed use. I fill up for around £75-£80 I get around 180-200miles out of a tank and well over 300miles on the motorway.
Avg service cost: OPC charges around £400 for a minor and £1500 for a major inc sparks.
Around what sort of mileage is a major service: services are every 2 years or 20k miles which ever comes first.
Tyres: Just over a year of road use with michelins
Cost of pads/discs: I'm guessing around £1500 for both fitted. mine are steels and have lasted 3 years and need changing now.
I think wether you buy from an OPC, Indy or private what matters is the history! If the car has been maintained to a high standard that is what matters to me and if it comes with some extended warrenty for peace of mind then great. I have had no warranty for 2 years now and just pocket the £1500 per year for anything that will be needed.
My car has also been tuned for a couple of years and it has been amazing to me.

^all of the above^ but also remember - choose a car that has had £000's spent on it - it will continue to need £000's spent on it!

I can say that my car has been brilliant (hope I'm not jinxing myself here lol) and apart from insurance, servicing, tyres and now brake pads/discs it has been good to me.khushy
