Hi,

I'm new to the forum and also new to Porsche, I am thinking of buying a 911 Carrera or a Cayman S but I need to know the difference in running costs I.e.:

Servicing
Tyres
Average Insurance
Fuel Costs (average)
Anything else you can think of? wink

Thanks in advance.

Which model 911? What age? Seems to be that 911 have more potential engine issues than the Cayman.

If comparing like for like - say 06 Cayman s against 06 Carrera s - the biggest cost is the difference in purchase price...

Servicing will be about 15 or 20% more for the 911 (assuming we're talking a C2S here?). Tyres depends entirely on the rims, but very likely to be little difference at all assuming you get a Cayman with the more common 19" rims.
Insurance costs are too dependent on your own personal factors, though I'm sure a 911 will be a bit more. Fuel consumption wise, maybe a tiny bit better in the Cayman, but not by much. As said above, the big difference is purchase price.

For info I get about 23mpg, insurance is £700 or so (I'm 33, full NCB, solicitor, good post code), major service just cost about £800 at an OPC, and I'm allowing £250 each for tyres. I had the same choice and got the Cayman S - tho c2S was superb and it is THE icon...

Thanks Actus and to others for their help, I have also spoken to a few people at work that own Porsches.

I got an insurance quote, my circumstances are similar to you ( i.e. 34, no convictions, IT Consultant) and it's looking around £770, not bad at all. Also why did you plump for the Cayman S and not the 911? Also I have seen some good deals from traders on Auto-trader, would folk recommend getting it from the approved Porsche used car pool with the 2 year warranty?

IMHO if you can afford the depreciation the other running costs are irrelevant.

If the link works it should show the 'menu' prices charged by my local specialist. May give the OP further insight.

Thanks very much, I have decided to go for a Cayman S, I have sourced some from traders on Auto-trader usually with a 1 year Warranty, or would you recommend getting a used car from a approved Porsche dealer used with the 2 year warranty?

Just look and see what the difference in price is then make your choice, is it worth a little extra to you for not having to worry!!!!
