6GT3 pre trackday season checklist?
Discussion
Hi all,
Alrighty so my baby will go in for its pre trackday season check shortly. So far I have the following on the list. Anything else that people can recommend?
- Oil change
- Brake fluid change (is this neccassary?)
- Check all rubber pipes/seals
- check all suspension parts, any cracks
Many thanks

torque check every single nut (suspension/steering/running gear) mark them after you are done which will save time the next time round. check your driveshaft CVs too.
less than 50% on your pads then put on new ones.
look to see if any of your coolant fittings are weeping

As above
Book ARDS instruction session
Brake pads must have at least half meat on them.
Fill fuel tank 3/4 full
Check towing eyes actually screw in
Verify fire extinguiser + mount secure.
Ditch all the loose stuff inside car, not considered essential.
Adjust seat / mirrors postiion to suit helmeted track driving (2 inches closer to steering wheel?)
Put all essentials into a toolbox (tyre pressure / depth gauge / torque wrench / spare bulbs / electrical tape / roll of cash for 104 octane / drinks / block of wood instead of using handbrake), leave it all in garage at circuit.

Easy as this imo.Alrighty so my baby will go in for its pre trackday season check shortly. So far I have the following on the list. Anything else that people can recommend?

check tyres/ wheel bolts/ pressures
make sure you have fuel
oil is filled up.
drive car, have fun.
I guess some people take it up a notch to do a ARDS course and mark every bolts after being torqued up.
Any thing else most people do when driving on the road, ie PADS check, fluid change etc etc, it's far more dangerous on the road imo ;-)
now where is that thread where it was being debated on how much wear track use did to a car.
that view right there puts you in the category of "shagged to death" while using it as "porsche intended", alarmingly i suspect that carrying that out that level of checks might put you towards the top of the tree in terms of track day maintenance too.
doing that will pass for a day or two once in a blue moon, where the driving is no more strenuous than an average B road blast on a sunday and one wishes to just go out for a laugh and have some fun in a rented helmet for some fun one summers afternoon. it does not cut it for regular track days.
if you want me to list a bunch of the wonderful reasons why i can do so but im sure it will be tedious for all. ill leave with this one:
running pads under 50% will pass massively increased amounts of heat into the calipers and not only kill your fluid and give you fade but it will bake and crumble all the seals and piston inserts on your calipers. they will be dead as a dodo in short order (one day with decent braking will do it) and despite showing nothing more than discoloured paint if that, a rebuild will show them to be ticking...

Thanks all, was just after pre season gt3 specific checks. After about 12 years of trackdays I've got the daily trackday routine down pat.
Ade - thanks, JZM did a brakefluid change when I bought the car april last year. It's done about 10+ trackdays since then and approx 7k miles so will def need to be changed. I requested dot 5.1 when jzm did it but will check the invoice for brand. Any reccomendations?
Fiorano - good call re nutes/torque etc, will get them to do a full check
Dave - yep I'll get a bigger rear view mirror. This will help me do my hair better and also see your good self BEHIND me

You will need a cage in the front to mount a large race mirror on. I have a 14" Longacre Racing job from the U.S. Demon Tweeks are stocking them now.. If not you can fit a cheapo one that straps over you existing rear view mirror, but they are a bit naff..
