An exciting time in the B3Svert household, I put a deposit down on a 996TT earlier this week pending a Peter Morgan inspection smile

The car I am (hopefully) buying is a 2004 with PCM 2 and I have a few questions that I hope you chaps will be able to answer:

1. Is a 2004 (04) model going to be CD or DVD based Nav?
2. Are up to date European street level maps still available?
3. Has anyone used the Dension Gateway 500 for iPod and BTA1500 bluetooth adaptor for phone?

I have used Dension in the past and found it very easy to install and excellent quality, but open to any other suggestions of other products available. The company I am buying the car from has quoted me £500 to install the Porsche bluetooth kit, I could get the full Dension ipod/phone kit for less than this so looking for any experience.

Hope the inspection goes well and you get the car.

I've no experience of the different audio bits & pieces, but I do have a carefully removed Dension Gateway 500 so if you decide that's the way to go and want to save some money compared to buying new (if someone else is installing it you'll never get to see the shiny box it came in anyway wink ) just PM me.

In Response...

1. PCM2 (which is what is in your 2004) are CD based
2. I seem to remember seeing at least 2008 European discs around so there may be even newer ones
3. Don't know about teh Denison, see post above ^^

I haven't used the BT module, but the 500 Gateway itself works fine in my 996 TT (2005). Same PCM2 - i.e. CD based - and all works fine. I use it with a USB hard disk with about 300 cd's on it - navigation's a bit fiddly but it does work pretty reliably with the latest firmware.

I have the Denison in an 04 PCM2 car. TBH, It works fine. The UI is a bit clunky, and took a little while to get used to, but it's all good now.

I tend to leave an old ipod nano that had been twiddling its thumbs locked in the centre storage box, rather than plug in my iphone/mp3. Capacity of the nano is fine.

I don't use a Bluetooth adaptor. I bought an O2 PAYG cheapie sim and popped that in the car, then set my iphone to divert calls to the car. Prefer it that way, TBH.

I have 2010 maps for Europe and the UK but for PCM1. I believe there are now 2011 maps available too. I would expect PCM2 to have been updated too. You may want to post on the forum at 911uk.com about this as I managed to get the maps pretty cheaply from there.

I also use a cheapie (giff gaff) PAYG sim and forward my phone to it. It works well.

I use a duplicate Orange SIM in my PCM 2.

It basically has the same telephone number as my blackberry.

When it is on, calls are diverted to the car, when it is off, calls go to my phone.

Works real well

I didn't know you could do that? I'll have to check with O2 to see if they can do it. I got a PAYG sim and forward the iPhone to it when I'm in the car, which works ok. I've never forgot to switch it back yet, but I imagine it would be a pain if I did.

I don't think you can with o2, something about o2UK not supporting duplicate SIM cards, shame really.

Phone is a year old now, so maybe time to go else where. This might be the deal breaker for a new contract. Thank you.

the Orange dual sim option is only available on Business tariffs. so don't go moving unless you can open a business account with them.

You could be right there. My one is through my work where we have an Orange business account
