Let me guess, your 4 ltr must be worth £5000000000000000000000000000000000 now.

Congrats.

I have no idea or interest on what my 4.0 RSs are worth, they are both not for sale and parked up. Due to the enforced choice of rubber.

Any links or evidence for this or did someone just pull this little fact out of thin carbonified air that we breathe today?

Ahh, sorry, my mistake, it must be someone else with a very similar user name who blatantly and doggedly tries to talk up the values at any given opportunity on any thread vaguely relating to the car.

This might not sit well with some - 2013 GT3 May be PDK Only

Surely I'm not the first one to read this and post. And it will pis off a few of you. Article from Inside Line:

Quote:

Just the Facts:

Porsche is evaluating manual and PDK transmissions for the new GT3.
Only one transmission will eventually be offered for sale.
The GT3 will debut in 2013.

STUTTGART, Germany - Porsche is evaluating a PDK gearbox for the next-generation GT3, due next year. August Achleitner, the 911 project chief, confirmed that Porsche's motorsport division is currently testing both manual and PDK versions of the new GT3. Only one transmission will ultimately be offered for sale, and Achleitner reckons the PDK is the favorite to get the nod.

Stick-shift 911s currently account for just 30 percent of sales. "When we launched the 911 Turbo S, we did not offer a manual, but we have not had a single complaint," Achleitner told Inside Line. A PDK-equipped GT3 would be the next logical step.

Achleitner also confirmed that the next-generation GT3 and GT2 will definitely feature a variant of the electromechanical steering system introduced on the new Carrera. He defended the system, which has been criticized for offering less driver feedback than a traditional hydraulic setup. "The new system only removes the feedback you don't need," he said. "All our race drivers prefer it."

Inside Line says: A PDK-equipped GT3 will be faster, but will it be more fun?

It's cool with me provided it's reliable.

What i can't bear is torque converter shushboxes changing gear when they like and wasting all your power.

Isn't the point that you change gear when you want to. If that's done by some lever moved about in an H shape combined with pedals or using buttons/up and down lever doesn't concern me much.

I might even prefer the robo-shift because it'll be faster than me.

You do know that even the old tiptronic gearboxes allow you to do just that, and it only shifts when you hit the limiter - just the same as PDK?

Both can be put in auto mode which will change for you, but both happily sit in manual mode and allow you to change it.

PDK is massively superior of course due to speed of shifts, but the point you made above is certainly incorrect.

Tiptronic is just a slushbox that's open to suggestions as regards gear selection, it's still a torque converter auto and consumes power from your engine and changes lazily like the rolls.

Technology wise PDK is a manual gearbox with cogs meshing inside just controlled by an ECU. Totally nothing like a tiptronic/slushbox.

you have two RSs ? jeez i wasn't even granted the permission to buy one.

frankly Porsche will do as they see fit, be it pdk or stick. they seldom listen to loyal customers, they just chase market share and dollar. i can't blame them for that, they are a succesful business, but looking at the current model range there isn't a single new car in it i would buy with my heart.

I'm no expert but believe the likes of F1 and other motor sports use a PDK type of gearbox (sequential).

If it’s good for them, surely it’ll be even better for the likes of the average driver IMHO.

Does the PDK really not provide all the control and feel of a manual box?, or is the reality just perception or perhaps at the very limits of the vehicle where the majority won't realise anyway

Great on the open road, not so good in town maneuvering. You know the stuff you never have to do in a Porsche!

Yes but your point was that you don't care as long as gears are changed when you want them to be. Which tiptronic does. As does PDK. PDK does it far better yes, but that wasn't the point you made smile

Besides (sorry I stole this from Wiki as it's a far better explanation than mine would have been):

"Lock-up torque converters

As described above, impelling losses within the torque converter reduce efficiency and generate waste heat. In modern automotive applications, this problem is commonly avoided by use of a lock-up clutch that physically links the impeller and turbine, effectively changing the converter into a purely mechanical coupling. The result is no slippage, and virtually no power loss."

If I'm correct, only 1st gear isn't locked in the tiptronic.

PDK on track is exactly what you want for speed, eradicating missed shifts, and to maintain better balance of the car.
