Opinions on this 996T please
Discussion
I have finally decided to buy a 911. Looked at this yesterday, drove it and love it. Think the 997 wheels wheels suit the car and price seems about right (and is just within my current budget)?
Just a little bit worried that the front aerokit spoiler might be too low for speed humps? It must have been caught before on a kerb or something, as there is a very slight ripple in the surface.

Your opinions would be appreciated before I sign on the dotted line.
Cheers,
Chris

The aerokit front splitter does take a battering over bumps I'm afraid, and looks tired quickly due to it being painted.
A lot of people swap it out for the standard one, which is less deep, and doesn't stick out as much.
This will mean the aero is unmatched front to rear, but if you are not doing silly autobahn speeds, I would guess that you wouldn't notice.
BTW the wheels I don't think are genuine 997 Turbo wheels, the shape of the spokes don't look right to me, are they 18" or 19"?
Lovely looking car, in a fairly rare colour.
I would wholeheartedly recommend a independant inspection on the car before buying one tho.

You drove it, you loved it, within budget......get it inspected and buy it.
By the way, the wheels aren't genuine Porsche items and the rears don't look like the right offset. An inspection would/should advise you of this.
I wouldn't worry too much about the aerokit scrapes, it's a consumable as they all take a few scuffs every now and then.

The aerokit splitter is more expensive to buy, and needs painting, so is a bit more expensive than a consumable I would think.
I too have a painted front splitter albeit the non-aerokit one. It cost £90 + £30 to have sprayed. I change it every year or so and have the old one rubbed down and resprayed so it only costs £30/year after the initial purchase price.Chris, if that was you looking over the car yesterday mid-afternoon then its was me wandering around and having a look at it myself.
I have to agree it does look good and even though yesterday it had awaiting preperation sticker on it, looked immaculate. On looks alone in the flesh then yes i would have it but inspection, inspection, inspection!!!
On the garage itself, its only few miles from where i live and they always have nice cars in there as in now, DB9, M3 Dakar, Ferrari 430, couple of Porsche's, loads of XK's and they race their own 996 GT in race series that you probably saw in the showroom. I looked at a 996 C4S a bit ago in there, didnt buy as i was purely browsing but it only was in there for a week and they seem to have a good turnover.

Hi, yes it was me. I agree, they are a good garage having serviced an XJR that I had for over 3 years - excellent. The car had been valeted, but not yet put through the workshop.I have to agree it does look good and even though yesterday it had awaiting preperation sticker on it, looked immaculate. Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that they are original porsche wheels - they have the Porsche crests on. I'll investigate further.I wouldn't worry too much about the aerokit scrapes, it's a consumable as they all take a few scuffs every now and then.

The wheels are not genuine and that would bother me as the quality of alloy will not be great!!
Also make sure it is a genuine aerokit!
Apart from that it looks good to me.
I had a cobalt blue 996tt lovely colour!!!

AFAIK that design of wheel was only available as an original wheel in a 19" size - that's what the 997 turbo uses, which is the car the wheel was designed for (although I've had a Cayman S with them on as a factory option - different widths & offsets no doubt, but still genuine). The 996 Turbo only ever came with 18" wheels. So, if they're 18" then they're replicas - check the widths and offsets and if they're all OK and you like them don't worry too much about it but perhaps try to negotiate a little to allow for buying a used replacement set of originals (£600-£1000, but you'll have the current ones to sell so net cost is less).
If they're 19's they could still be replicas so the above applies (but you'll need tyres too), but if they're genuine then their used value is probably a little higher than the correct wheels so whilst you might prefer to change to the correct wheels (for original ride and handling) the net cost will be nothing. Genuine Porsche wheels always used to have the width and offset number cast either side of the valve, I think these are the same which makes it easy to check.

They dont look original to me as the angle on the spokes look a bit square to me.So, if they're 18" then they're replicas - check the widths and offsets and if they're all OK and you like them don't worry too much about it but perhaps try to negotiate a little to allow for buying a used replacement set of originals (£600-£1000, but you'll have the current ones to sell so net cost is less).
