996 tt Shortshift, feedback/ recommendations?
Discussion
There have been a couple of very long threads on here about that exact subject, which a little time with the search option should hopefully unearth.
If I remember correctly the general consensus seems to be. . don't, as the resulting shift action, whilst shorter, is too notchy & none so precise.
I have also read somewhere that it puts a lot more stress through certain components.
Some on here have suggested instead, the relatively cheap mod of installing a 997 selector mechanism, or better still a 997gt3.2 selector as it has less plastic/more metallic parts. That is what I have done, but haven't got the car back yet from a (non related) gearbox rebuild.
Worth a"search" before you take the plunge.

Toying with fitting a shortshift kit to my 996tt. Before going any further looking for some feedback on how good they are, recommendations, costs etc?
thanks
I've had a BMC shifter on my turbo and my previous C2 - not bad very short throw though, recently upgraded to a 997 gt3.2 shifter mated with cup cables, massive improvement, rifle bolt precision and slightly longer throw than the BMC.thanks
Both better than standard IMHO
