As part of my final narrowing down of options for my upcoming birthday treat I have this week been looking at GT2s (drove an F430 yesterday as well but that is a whole other thread!!)

I drove a Clubsport on Monday, suffice to say they are everything everyone has always said about them. Butt clenching...!

I viewed another yesterday, a Comfort car which was incredible condition and as far as I could tell factory original paint and panels, 11,000 miles from new.

Current owner 6 years, and has done something like 1,000 miles in 5 years of that BUT has not kept to servicing schedule so last serviced 5 years ago (since which 1,000 miles and mainly SORN).

It's top money for one of these but owner has agreed within a deal to put car in for OPC check and major service.

What are your opinions ref the missing services guys?

Cheers,

I think that is a huge gap in servicing, there are plenty of GT2s compared to the amount of buyers and so most cars do stay on the market for quite some time. There are very few nice, straight and well maintained cars and I would hold out for one of those, especially as you are buying at the top end of the market.

All IMO of course.

I believe the car in question has been part of previous discussion about 12 months ago, due in fact to the galactic interval between servicing.
Which is a shame, and unfortunately very short sighted of the owner, as the car is meant to be in fantastic condition.

After last discussion I think the consensus was, no big deal as such , BUT the price needs to reflect lack of service history intervals, and also it would need to be a life long keeper for the new owner ,as you would have a snow ball's chance in hell of selling it on again ( at least at a decent price ).

I just cannot figure out why someone would scrimp on service intervals for a car of such provenance.

There are better qualified people / GT2 owners on here to give you their opinion mind you.

ETA: Obviously it goes without saying that a very in depth PPI would be required, especially for a car that has basically been sitting like an ornament for so long.

If the guy is going to put it through a full check and service and its a keeper so you can get some history moving forward, get it bought.

Thanks guys, it's not likely to be a keeper this car, as my general period of ownership is a year/two but who knows...!

The search facility is current down. I know it's a long shot but I don't suppose anyone has a copy of the previous thread on this subject/car?

seen and driven the 11k miles car. Beautifull car but massive gap in history. Many people walked away from it (me included) mainly because of this.

If you can still get an OPC warranty on it and you're planning to do sensible miles this year say 5-10k you'd have thought any problems would come up. Mostly seals and stuck wastegate valves and stuff. I'd be inclined to do a 1000 mile weekend thrash first thing then get the oil and water and brake fluid done again. Not much to pay. I don't really see any issues lurking beyond 5-10k miles.

I had a rover 420 turbo parked outside under a bush for years and finally sold it to someone on here. It started and drove 100 miles home and worked years after that.

If a rover can do it this outside a porsche sure can inside!

you drove an F430 but are looking at a 996 GT2? Why not a 997 GT2?

Top top top budget is £75K hence the Ferrari but not 997GT2 (can't see any 997GT2s within budget?) and I suppose I'm also more comfortable spending less than planned not more..budget creep is a nightmare...!

Thought the fezza at £75K was immense but not sure I have the balls to buy it.

The 996 GT2 in discussion is driving me mad with heart v head..!

I wouldn't buy the GT2. Try phoning round a few dealers pretending to sell it on and see what their reaction is. I'm even getting mine serviced by an OPC at their rip off prices to protect its value.

There are two questions here - value and state of the engine

Fristly I'd want it at a keen price as you'll need to do the same when you pass it on. Mine was <40k and has a rock solid history, though the miles are somewhat highter.

I'd also speak to a really good specialist such as Steve at Jaz or Jonas / Steve at JZM to get an expert's view on the real risk to the engine.

Also if you intend to keep it a year or two and want an easy sale then perhaps its not the car for you. But if it checks out on both points above and you intend to keep it, it may be worth a serious look

Get a PPI done, no big deal IMO
Don't see why they should be devalued to be honest if the car is mint and has no issues.
Mine has high miles for the nature of the car which doesn't bother me in the slightest, it has every conceivable receipt/stamp/letter etc etc 2 owners best history ever on any pork i have ever owned and drives better too because its been used,i would also hazed a guess that it is set up better and will drive far better than the garage queens, when i bought it i had driven some others that had lower miles etc and they just were not as responsive and didn't feel as nice, just didn't connect with them.
But i know when i come to move it on some perspective buyer will want it for nothing due to the miles.

I wouldn't worry too much about a long interval in servicing i would be more worried that as it hasn't been used it may cost a damn site more money than a cheaper well used car

If it were me I would follow the head rather than heart on this one.
I know it must be very tempting. They are amazing car's, no doubt. But from my view point if it's not a life long keeper, I reckon you will regret it financially. Too many people experienced with GT2's have walked away already, so that tells you something I guess.
