Rusty Nuts

Suffering from rusty nuts...on my Cayman S wheels that is. Apparently they are not treated by Porsche for rust (go figure?!) what are my options, thinking coat of hammerite, or perhaps some chrome covers. On planet-9 theres lot of positive talk about these guys http://www.boothedesign.com/ but dont know if they ship to UK but thats the expensive option I guess.

I had the same problem.....a wire brush, hammerite & afterwards a low heat in the oven with the bolts pushed through a piece of cardboard.....all while SWMBO was out

Porsche now do sets of black wheel bolts rather than the standard silver ones that end up rusting.

Last sunday wheel by wheel I removed the nuts, etch primed them and then sprayed them with Merc Metalic silver (very close to the original colour) and after leaving them to dry for a while put them back on carefully and moved on to the next wheel.

I used an old box with holes punched into it to hold the individual nuts to ensure the thread didn't get sprayed.

Job done for a while.

Are you guys using acidic wheel cleaner, or going to car washes?
I sprayed mine up over 2 years ago, normal sillver rattle can spray, and thery are still fine today.
I only use car shampoo and water on the wheels when I wash.

Never been through a car wash always hand washed with Dodo Juice and they still rusted.

Anyway, went to Homebase this weekend and got a tin of Smooth Silver Hammerite for £8.99 and painted the nuts with a small brush in situ.

Result - almost like new.

Save yourselves a load of hassle and just get chrome or black nut covers,
About £20 from ebay, look great and 5 min job to do the 4 wheels.

I do use a wheel cleaner which is the main reason they go rusty

I bought some of these from Ebay. They do fit my locking nuts but they seem very loose on the other nuts.

So loose in fact I haven't actually put them on as I think they would fall off at the first corner.

They say 19mm which I think is the correct size.

Anyone else had issues with them?

A vote here for the Booth nuts from the US. They do ship to the UK.

This is a pic of mine when they were new four years ago and they look the same today. Expensive but in my opinion worth it. Spot the locking one!
