So I've driven the new Cayenne Diesel, but I just found it a bit (dare I say it) slow. I know it's supposed to be a great car, but I was disappointed.

So does anyone know if a Diesel S is going to be released and if so when.

Alternatively I could just save up for a petrol S, but I reckon the depreciation might be a killer on it.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Not read anything yet, but I would not be surprised to see the new Audi biturbo 3.0D dropped into a cayenne at some stage - 333bhp diesel IIRC.

Perhaps look at the Turbo? I suppose there might be a GTS version out at some point too.

would be really surprising if a Cayenne Diesel S didn't arrive eventually ...

Hi

mns1977 - I can't agree with you there - when you took it for a test drive did you engage the "Sport" Mode for both suspension and performance ?

I have owned mine since last July and agree that when in "Normal" mode it dones come across as "sluggish" - engage the above and the car transorms/lights up immensely

Got to say I'm very pleased with mine!

I was also pleasantly surprised when I first drove a Cayenne diesel. I felt it was very similar to our early 4.5V8 which never felt lacking in the 3 years we ran it.

Obviously our current Turbo S is in a slightly different league but I wouldn't use that as a benchmark.

Been asking this as well (Diesel S) - there are rumors about this here in Germany, but the dealers say it won't happen (plus surely it would be revealed in Geneva if it did?). I have the diesel in my Panamera and it does lack grunt at the top end. A friend has had a mtm remap on his Cayenne and it has made a noticable difference. A route to consider I guess, think this is what I am going to do anyway.

Slow? You're having a laugh. There's only so much pace you can use in the real world, and the Cayenne Diesel has it spot on. Mine comes first week in April.

And I doubt the present diesel engine will exist alongside another one. The twin-turbo jobby will probably get introduced at the same time as a minor facelift (or on its own 'without' a facelift) and retain the 'Cayenne Diesel' moniker.

My OPC said there's a V8 Diesel coming later this year, and I believe this is official.

However, IMO, the blend of performance and economy on the current diesel is very impressive, and more than adequate for this type of vehicle.

Current Cayenne Diesel is the best all round car on the planet IMO.

We get ours in May

did you leave the handbrake on?

Cayenne diesel feels plenty quick enough IMO.

Cobnaprint and helicopter - I find your comments quite odd seeing you haven't actually got your cars yet. The numbers from Porsche and my experience of the car suggest it could do with a bigger engine in the diesel form.

Am I correct in thinking its the same Audi engine as per a much lighter q5?

I've had an extended test drive.

Ref the Q5, its a very similar unit. We actually have a 3.0 Q5 diesel at the moment, and it's a rocket ship in a straight line. The Cayenne is bigger but "feels" nimbler and "smoother" at the same time and plenty quick enough as an all-round family vehicle. That said, i'm not looking for track day performance from something I'm going to put the kids in everyday.

I borrowed one for 24hrs and that made my mind up straight away. Smooth and quiet with effortless low end torque is just what you want in todays real world driving conditions.
And on the performance front, this thing gets to 60 in the same time as the old Cavelier GSi 2000 did. And is only 0.3 sec behind ye olde R5 GT Turbo - if you can remember that far back.

I'd be surpised if they went with the 4.2 V8. They'd be heading in the wrong direction on the all important fuel consumption/emmisions front, when all they need to do is use the new in-house 3.0 Bi TDI which will provide virtually the same performance figures for less. Me thinks this might be a red herring - unless they've been spooked by BMW's upcoming tri-turbo diesel and feel the need to respond quickly to save time on developing the twin turbo lump into the Cayenne. Who knows.

While the Cayenne Diesel is not a rocketship, for what it is, a 2+ tonne lump of metal it's more than fast enough. I've had mine almost 1 year now and honestly it's more than adequate for everyday driving. It keeps up with most flows of traffic. It's comfortable to drive on the long haul.
I'd even guess that on my rural roads it's as quick from A-B as my Cayman S!! I'll get flamed for that statement, but... I can now see over the hedges etc which allows me an earlier look to see if the road ahead is clear, so I can pass slower traffic earlier and this means I don't feel the need to speed as much ;-)
Yes, I'm sure more power would be good but not required IMHO.

The Cayenne Turbo is the best 4x4 on the planet, had mine for about 3 weeks and it is awsome and I get between 22-25 mpg which is more than my old GTS (15-18mgp)
