Do I need Porsche battery?

Quick question. My battery is completely dead. Porsche want £335 or halfords for their best £135. Is the Porsche one worth it?

Thanks for the advice! No porsche warranty to think about. The RAC guy put in a bosch silver one for £120 which seemed reasonable!

COSTCO, Bosch Silver, fitted on to my 993 a couple of weeks ago.
Can't remember the exact price, but less than £100 I think.

Cheapest place is Eurocarparts. Just purchased S5 Bosch for £100.

Not quite! "You can fit a non-standard battery, but risk invalidating any future claim linked to fitting such non-standard item." So said my OPC. But of course, always check with your own as not all OPCs seem to be the same!

Yup, Bosch S5 all the way. IIRC, rated a little higher than the Porsche Moll battery with a noticeable oomph in cranking.

Not quite again That only applies to a brand new car under EU block exemption rules. The OPC have no control over the terms of the extended warranty, and using a non-Porsche battery will void the entire thing.

OK, so I get the block exemption thing for the manufacturers guarantee. So how would this affect things if I changed the battery in the first 2 years (under block exemption). Would that still invalidate the 3rd year insurance based warranty?

Not quite again and again (is that right?). I was on extended warranty; OPC was quite clear that if I fitted, and I was allowed to, a non-Porsche battery, it did not invalidate my warranty per se. But it may invalidate it if any subsequent claim was as a direct result of that non-standard item being on the car. That's wot e sed! Anyway, I chickened out and fitted a Porsche battery!!

They're wrong. OPC don't underwrite the warranty, and I can promise you if the engine went pop and there was a non-Porsche battery in there, they wouldn't pay out a thing. It's all in the warranty booklet, and sadly even the nicest Aamd best-meaning OPC person can't override the contractual terms of that.

Here's the trick. Call Porsche's breakdown assistance. Tell them the battery has died and it needs replacing. They will collect a battery from the OPC, fit it, and I think it was about £200, way cheaper than if you were to go directly to the OPC. Check the prices it that was the situation a couple of years ago. Odd but true!!

If the engine goes pop, get towed home then swap battery and call recovery again to tow to dealers.

or just buy the porsche battery and save all the hassle (and fraud) okay its overpriced which sucks, but you did buy a Porsche rather than a Ford
