Why can't people do even the most simple job properly!!?
Discussion
Hi everyone this is my first post on here.
I am a very proud owner of a Gen 2 987 boxter bought from an OPC.
I've only done maybe 400 miles in it since Jan, and today thought I'd give it a proper clean.
I did notice that the front number plate was being "held off" the black intermediate mounting plate so decided to remove the number plate and investigate.
To my total dismay I was greeted to the plate being held on with self tappers that were not only randomly placed to avoid the suggested positions provided by the black mount, but also that long that they were actually screwed into the bumber of the car!
Upon removal of the black mount, I was greeted by 4 more self tapper holes in the bumper!
The car has one previous owner, will have had the "Porsche Approved" plate in the showroom, then the new plate on the car when I bought it, giving the 6 holes in total.
Total buffoonery.
Obviously I changed the plate screws to shorter ones and it looks ok but I cannot believe that people just cannot be bothered to do such a simple job properly. Then we are expected to take our cars to be serviced at inflated prices when these "experts" are doing jobs to that sort of standard.
When it goes in for its first service I'll be embearrassing someone as to how this happens.
Its common practice, not just Porsche, the thing is I expected better. And its not exactly a hard job is it.
Lost faith in anyone doing anything properly.
Cheers, Matt

Good topic and I agree!
Like they say: Life is hard. It's even harder if you're stupid ....
Probably the reason some people can afford decent cars is that level of attention to detail. Behavioral theory dictates that you'll bring significant personal aspects like that into your working life too ....

It's the lack of common sense that always amazes me.
+1 That is something that I am always harping on about and never seizes to amaze me, I have had some highly educated intelligent people work with me over the years and it is unbelievable, but each to his own. Unfortunately this is so common place and I swear if you have to deal with many tradesmen you will end up in the looney bin. If you find a good tradesman treat him well because for every good one there are ten numpties! I bought a 987 boxster privately with 22000 miles and as I do all my own servicing when I came to change the engine oil the sump plug was totally mishaped. It had only been serviced once at an OPC. I just cant understand why people get hung up on OPC service history,I would rather see a box file of everything that has been done to the car in the past, whoever has done it.
At a motorcycle dealer one time the service department sent an apprentice out to check the oil level on my bike...I was watching over him like a hawk and nearly blew a joint when the lad unscrewed the dipstick then turned it upside down to read the oil level.
There are good and bad people in jobs everywhere but what gets me is the bad get paid the same as the good.

I was waiting in the Oulton Park collecting area to go on track behind a GT3 (RS I think, can't remember for sure) that was only a few weeks old and the rear number plate was clearly wonky and had been screwed on - I'm told this is part of the PDI done by the OPC "Technician".
If they can't even get that right, how confident would you be taking the car round a track flat out?

Don't surprise me. Seems to be like this in many trades now adays. Quality ain't there anymore.
I am so damm reluctant to take any car to a dealers for service, i prefer A good Indy. However, there are decent ones about, that i cannot deny, just few and far between.
Wouldny be so bad if they where cheap, but to bend you over and give you it too, takes the biscuit!!
