Help: 996 coolant leak
Discussion
Hi there,
I was hoping for someone to put my mind at rest! I was driving my 2004 996 C4S home the other day and noticed steam (not blue smoke!) coming from the engine (quite a lot of it), and pretty soon after a flashing light came on suggesting the coolant was low (which it is when I looked at the tank, and noticed pretty much the whole engine was covered in water/steam). I drove it home half a mile making sure it didn't overheat and didn't notice any problem with the engine but it did start making a noice like a squeaky fan belt for the 100 yards before I parked it.
I've attached a photo of the coolant pouring out of the car when I tried topping it up. It's not the best photo but hopefully can give some sort of idea of where the leak is, and hopefully the problem. I'm going to get it towed to a garage this week but was hoping for an early idea as to what might be wrong.
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions which may allow me to eat something other than Tesco Value baked beans until I find out.
Scott
