964 from Hong Kong.
Discussion
Hi Fellas,
Just off the phone to PCT in Coventry about a 964 they have for sale. The Salesman said the car was in good knock with lots spent over the years, but the car has spent most of its life in Hong Kong. The speedo has been changed from KPH to MPH by PCT.
Could someone please tell me if they have had any dealings with PCT? And could some one please tell me the pit falls of buying a car from Hong Kong?
Thank you in advance.

Well it won't have seen much road salt, but neither will it have spent much time cruising gently in top as Hong Kong is mostly either city streets or hills. I'd suggest also that HK-ers don't go over the top on maintenance and there are not a lot of techs who know the older cars.
Really, I'd just treat it as a 'regular' old 911 and get it thoroughly check out.

I live in Hong Kong.
Check the history. If it doesn't have a well documented mileage, assume it's been clocked (it's very common in HK).
When was it imported into the UK? Does seem odd that it would be taken from HK into the UK - as mentioned above, they are worth a lot more here.
Regarding roads here, it won't have had a hard life. (Almost) all cars are garaged and there's only limited chance to enjoy them. It is likely to have spent most of it's life driving in slow traffic in the city.
If you want to PM me what you can find out about where it was maintained I'll see what I can find out about the garage. Again, as mentioned above, there aren't a lot of specialists, so fingers crossed it's somewhere well known.

Have dealt with PCT for about eight years and know them by reputation prior to that. They are as honest as the day is long and down to earth. However, if you do decide to proceed, make sure you get an independant inspection. I think car sales is relatively new to them (see the other Autobahn thread).

I am Chinese and most of the car enthusiasts I know in HK go far more over the top on maintenance than over here. Temp is much hotter and cars spend lots of time in traffic. Think gearbox oil change yearly engine oil change twice yearly sometimes. Really, I'd just treat it as a 'regular' old 911 and get it thoroughly check out.

People in Hong Kong spend a lot more time and money on cars than most people here. I know this because I am from Hong Kong but I've lived in the UK since 2006.

Mileage is very low on our cars because like the previous poster said, there is a limited amount of roads that we could drive on.

I know a few Porsche owners in HK, I would not worry to much about maintainence, by definition the owner will be very rich and can afford the servicing and there are some good Porsche specialist there, (frankly i'd worry more if it was a Honda as these guys can't afford the servicing).if its not been to the track in S China it will never have been driven hard, milage will/should be low as every one I know with a Porsche there has at least 2 other cars, and never having seen salt body should be good.
Check it is an original JK car not an import from the UK at three years old, that would be the worst of both worlds,
