I’m in the market for a 968 and as well as looking in the PH classifieds, www.porsche968uk.co.uk seem to have a few for sale that interest me. Thing is, I can’t find a way of accessing the seller contact information in the ‘For Sale’ section on the 968UK website. I sent the web organizer an e-mail a week ago – no response, and tried registering on the forum to see if that works. To register you have to put in details of the 968 you own (including chassis number) so that’s not much use if you’re looking to buy one. Can anyone shed any light on how to access this information or even if the website is still functioning, there’s no dates anywhere on the adds or website.
(If anyone is thinking of selling PM me, my preferences are, Coupe or Sport, excellent condition, good history, A/C, strong colour i.e. something other than white, silver, grey or black)
Any help appreciated

You can join the forum, just stick in the VIN from your current car. Worked for me!

I suspect the adverts on the for sale tab of the website are likely rather old...

Thanks AlR26. I think you are right about the adds being old, just spotted in the most recent add that the MOT expires Dec 2010. The classified adds on there seem to have been a victim of the success of PH but is the forum worth joining? Possibly due to the cars being rare and reliable, but there's not much on the PH forums about 968's.
How's your search for a CS going?

There's a US based site called 968.net - a fair number of UK owners are registered and post on there. It's run by a chap called Flash (yes, really). Also some activity on rennlist

968.net was a great source of information when I bought mine, but it lost it's way some years ago and stopped being updated. Looks like it's been re-hashed by Flash though. 968uk has a good load of relevant info for the prospective buyer and is a pretty friendly forum.

Hi Chadspeed,
I've just bought a 968 Sport. Got it through the classifieds on here. PH does seem to be the best place to look for 968's at the moment.
Good luck, you'll not regret it!

Thanks for the offer BrewsterBear but it will be used as a daily driver so really looking for one with comfort or standard seats (SWMBO has requested a 'pretty' colour as well)

I was desperate for air con in my 968 so I understand you specifying it in your want list. However, not many came with air con originally so you might have a long wait. After many months being told it wasn't possible, I eventually found an Indy in Dorset who retro-fitted air con in mine and you would have thought it was original. Everything was right, ie all the under-the-bonnet mechanicals, hoses etc, even the dash kit. This might open the field up a bit for you?

Sorry- can't offer you my 968 to buy - modified it terminally on ice a couple of winters ago.....

PH is probably the best place, but there are several other "classic car" sites. The Porsche Club site is ok for info (also check the 944 forum there as its a lot busier) I'm pretty sure aircon is very common on all but the CS and Sport versions.

I agree re: aircon - funnily enough I had an Aventura green sport running MO30 which had aircon on it, and comfort seats. OP - Aventura Green is a fantastic colour if you see one advertised, but there were only six UK cars in it.

Aircon would be nice but wouldn't be a deal breaker if the car was right. I've had a few PM offers for cars not in the PH classifieds and should have mentioned earlier that it must be manual, sorry no Tip.
A couple of further questions if I may, is it possible to retro fit rear seats to a CS? Also what is the extent of the sound deadening the Coupe has over the CS and Sport, is it inside the car and hence easy to retrofit or is there some on the bulkhead inside the engine bay?
Although more likely to be a Coupe rather than a Sport as the seller suggests, this car is close to the specification I'm after http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3613367.htm Does anyone have any comments about the car or seller (PM welcome if PH rules likely to be infringed).
Thanks for the continued info

Retrofitting rear seats in a CS is probably feasible but pointless as you'll destroy the residual. Might as well begin with a Coupe or Sport which are cheaper and more plentiful to begin with.

The Riviera Blue car may be worth a look but the smoked indicators and CS decals aren't to my taste, and there is no such thing as an "ECU remapped 260 Bhp".

ETA: The M030 items and LSD are nice track-orientated additions that will help on resale, although M030 may be too stiff for a daily driver. With this spec it is likely that the car will have been tracked so I would want to see lots and lots of receipts for preventative maintenance.

968uk is well worth joining, btw.

Well they dont look like sports seats to me and if they got that wrong I wonder how true the rest of the info is.

Ask him what's "Clubsport" spec about it - there doesn't appear to be a great deal. Is it retro fitted MO30 - if so, does it cover all the MO30 bits and when fitted. And is it OE LSD or aftermarket etc.

Where he's talking about a heated screen, if he means the front then he's talking about an arial built into it. In which case it's had new glass at some point as the 968 carries a beesting arial on the roof.

I'd agree with the previous poster - if you want four seats go for a sport or coupe - easier and potentially much less costly.

That Blue car was advertised on PH last year for £8,000, I know that prices have solidified on 968s this year, but they haven't risen for non-CS cars...so ask what has been done in the past 12 months to add £2,000 to the value....

Indeed, too many questions about that car to warrant a four hour round trip. Comments about not adding rear seats to a CS noted but I assume they could be as easily removed as installed when resale time comes so I'll keep it as a last resort option. The only other car currently on PH then that is a possibility is the Dark Blue Sport at Ninex, but it does have 156K on the clock. Putting the resale question to one side for a moment (I could potentially be selling it on at 200k - how easy would that be?) what are peoples thoughts on a 968 with that sort of mileage?

You could consider contacting smn159 on PH who is the former owner of that car.

Mine is just shy of 160k, tight as a drum, the interior is immaculate and the paint still sparkles. If looked after these cars will go on forever. Of course, that is said of many models however the build quality of the 968 is really in another league from most; in my experience matched only by German cars of a similar vintage or older.

Unfortunately they are probably no easier to sell on with high miles than any other car, which is why going the low-miles CS route and retrofitting seats might actually make sense as long as it is possible to reverse without leaving a trace.

Mine's done a similar mileage and is still superb.

Easy enough to take the parcel shelf out of a CS - I had to when I'd the cage put in.
