Open the fuse box, pull out the red tag. Attach a 12v feed to that, positive on tag, negative on door
hinge usually and hey presto.....enough power to unlock front boot.

Thanks for the offer, much appriciated, but I don`t want to be totally thick but......just looked, is the fuse box / red tag actually in the front bonnet on the luggage compartment, as can`t see anything in the cabin except the OBD socket or am I not looking properly?

Its in the fusebox, like a larger fuse that pulls out to expose the contact.
fuse box next to your right leg where the spoiler switch is.

The easiest way to get a flat 996 going is to open the engine cover using the release handle just inside the door. The hey presto, the + & - terminals are there right in front of you.

Jump leads or preferably a 12v Booster pack, to either start the car, or supply 12v to power all the electrics!

(No fiddly bits)

If the Battery is flat you cannot open the engine cover

depends how flat the battery is, mine recently wouldn't start but there was enough power in battery to release bonnet and engine cover.

I think 996.1 have a cable lever, 996.2 are an electric switch
