Is now the right time to be selling a cabriolet ?

Mine is up (not linking to the advert) but is the cheapest on here and not getting much interest - the odd text/call, mostly from dealers who don't identify themselves as such (a quick Google reveals all smile) and the one person where the text speak was so strong I had great difficulty working out what they meant (I'm guessing this was a premiership footballer wink)

I know my colour/interior combo won't suit all, and I've checked my ad to make sure it has all the pertinent info and seemingly it does. I'm guessing the price for a private sale is putting people off, but I was hopeful an 18 month OPC warranty would somewhat offset that.

As it's a bit out of the norm guess I'll just have to wait, not in any hurry right now......

Small point. I was just looking for your ad and found it eventually. Might get more hits is you had Cabriolet in the title instead of Convertible. There is only yours and one other listed with convertible and all the rest come up under Cabriolet. Some potential buyers may subset the long list of 997 turbo's by these key words to save ploughing through all the coupés.

I'm led to believe that anything will sell if the price is right.

You probably need look for no more wisdom than that.

Good luck!

No, be my guest - I know it won't be to everyone's taste/spec

A very good point too, and not one I'd thought about - so I've amended it so it's the same as the others, Cheers...

This is intended to be constructive:

Pros (for me): good spec, OPC warranty for a decent chunk of time, Gen1.

Things that don't bother me but might bother some: Tiptronic, the phone, the price (the only comparable is a Gen 1 tip that Paragon have for sale - 32k miles in black at £1500 more. Makes your price look a bit toppy).

Things that would most likely make me move to the next ad: the exterior & interior colours. Whereas in a more conventional combo I could see buyers reaching for the man-maths pad at that price.

Probably nothing you didn't already know. The interior/exterior strikes me as a highly acquired taste. It's the sort of car that you could put up for 6 months, and then someone will see it and want to bite your arm off.

Thanks for that - I know the colour combo is an acquired taste - I had no idea what to expect when I went to view it (no pics) but only wanted white and decided I really liked it (it does look different in real life). As you say some will love, some won't - the phone is a bit of an oddity - not something I can remove easily, but I've never used it other than to make a test call (not while driving obviously!)

Tried to price it accordingly in comparison to that dealer one (they seem highly mileage sensitive) and hoped the warranty would balance out the private element, maybe not.......

Have had a couple of offers by text so far but not quite where I ideally wanted to be

Can understand that completely. When I was looking I saw RSJ had a seal grey + cinnamon 6T. It looked pretty lurid in photos. When I was there though, it looked gorgeous.

Yours may well be the same, but the trouble is that you've got to get punters within 6 feet of the car for them to realise it.

Do you have a mate who is handy with a camera? Perhaps try shooting in lower light, eg closer to dusk.

Yep, know someone who is handier with a camera than I am - I know my shots are not the best and I'm certainly no David Bailey - it's being detailed this week so will get some after that......

Ok it is not to offensive, but people can take offensive so i wanted to check.

For me it is the colour's. White, biege and blue. I have seen you have dropped the price, however the price it is, still has not out weighed the colour's yet.

There are a couple of others available for less from dealers http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3524798.htm . I have had a deposit on it for a while, however drivewise leave alot to be desired (silver and black tip for £54995) and another on autotrader £54950 at bently black with black said it was tip but it is manual, and i wanted a tip.

Whilst i agree the warranty will help, the price is the overriding factor. For me to be interested it would need to be below the 55k mark

Thanks for that - already turned down £55K.

Guess people want Silvers and Blacks, which I didn't when I got it (my 996 was Seal Grey and whilst I liked it fancied a change).....

Will see how it goes.

well for me its the roof

I wouldn't want a tip, but obviously others will.
I'm not a fan of Tan all over on the interior but I could live with it.

the killler is the roof, if it was black fine. If it was Tan, ok, but Blue? it looks at odds and there is nothing (ok grant you the mats)that ties into the blue. It just sits there at odds with the rest of the car

When the original owner ordered it new he was asked for a higher deposit due to the roof colour........in real life it is so dark it's barely noticeable to black tbh, but I understand the colour combo isn't for all.....

You'll be waiting a while with Sand I think. Friend of mine couldn't sell his Atlas/Sand 987S for ages despite competitive pricing, and ended up having to trade it in the end.

Problem is by then it will have depreciated a further £3k.

The best bet with cars hard to shift is to drop the price now and take a small hit to avoid taking a much bigger drop later.

Haven't searched for the ad but it sounds like accepting the £55k might be the safest option.

The problem with alternative colours is that you're limiting your market significantly. You've got to be lucky enough to have the planets align so that when you're selling the car someone with the mindset you had when you bought it comes along looking to buy, whereas there's always likely to be a market for the more traditional colour combos.

That's just the nature of the beast I'm afraid, and it is further compounded by the fact that even people who love the colour combo will have that nagging thought in the back of their mind of how difficult it'll be for them to sell it on again.

The £55K I turned was from the premiership footballer type person with text speak. I'd be happy to negotiate with anyone who came out to view the car etc......

Yep, seems like the problem will be that you have got two marmite colours going on there. And a blue roof. As others have said, there's going to be a very limited market for that car, and it's going to need to be a few £k less than the normal run of black/grey/blue cars for it to sell without a long wait.

Good luck with it though.
