996tt Rear Tyre Wear?

I get considerably more than 7k out of a set of rears - more like 10-15k.
They were through to the wires on the inside edge and I was surprised how quick they've worn. Are these cars heavy on negative rear camber or do I need a geo check on the rear? I know it wouldn't do any harm to have it checked I guess.
I had about the same with my last set of rears - probably closer to 4-5k miles, and it’s the inner edges that are worn. Pressures checked religiously.
I’ve just had the geometry done and have a brand new set of rears ready to go on, so I’ll see how these go, although apparently its quite normal for the inner edges to wear first due to the large degree of neg camber on the turbo.

So lots of neg camber is as the factory intended then? Keep us up to speed MTF with how they wear won't ya.I’ve just had the geometry done and have a brand new set of rears ready to go on, so I’ll see how these go, although apparently its quite normal for the inner edges to wear first due to the large degree of neg camber on the turbo.

So how do you manage to get that sort of mileage then? Are you running Michelins as well Dave?LeighB said:

Lots of negative camber does suit and is designed for a certain driving style!
If you are around town or quite leisurely for the majority of your miles you will probably get inner shoulder wear with that geo.
10k out of my MPS2 rears on 996t. Tyre place said I had approx 2K left in them but as I am driving to the Alps in April I thought I would change them and put the old ones back on for a track day.
Mine wore on the inside and outside edge, the car was setup at Center Gravity about 6 months ago.

Yep, PS2s.I guess it's partly because the car is my daily driver, and so a lot of the time it's not really accelerating any harder than most tin boxes. Journey to work is fairly short - car barely gets warmed up - so obviously I'm driving gently then.
It does get abused when the opportunity arises, but I guess that's a relatively small percentage of my mileage - and will be even less these days because if I do fancy a blast I may use my other car instead.

Must be a geo issue then

Leigh, my rears are still in good condition and have seen track action and my usual spirited driving, do your wear seems excessive. The handling on mine is pretty good, but she does tend to 'shake that ass' every now and again, do I might have less neck gator camber. SCM claimed they'd done the geo on mine.
7k I wish - managed 2k on last set but then it only gets driven one way
The way the settings are tends to wear the inside edge - it is the most common situation we see. Too much negative camber clearly increases this.
We set up with fast road gt2 settings on 996 turbos but frankly whilst geo/hardware/pressures all affect , biggest factor is how you drive.
