Former Kwik Fit mechanic Gary Reader, 32, was jailed for six and a half years at Chelmsford Crown Court today for killing an eight-year-old boy while driving a customer's Porsche 911.

Ideally, yes.

Happens all the time, though.
In my local paper there's a section 'From the Courts'.

This gives all the court cases from the previous day - yesterday in amongst 5 or 6 driving cases, one report started 'Porsche driver John Smith...'
It was the only one that stated what car was being driven... rolleyes

Can't single out the media when a Porsche owner writes the same thing.

Title should be changed to "Idiot car theif jailed".

He wasn't a Porsche driver, he was driving a Porsche.

Very true.

Burn the OP at the nearest stake.

To be fair to the media in this case, it isn't mentioned in the headline

And will probably only do 3. I'd be waiting for him if he'd done this to mine

Know how you feel. If the establishment considers a jail term to be the ultimate deterrent, then why didn't this cretin get a prison sentence commensurate with the crime? I've never fully understood why reckless drivers don't suffer the same consequences as others who are directly responsible for taking a life.

Define reckless.

Absolutely no winners in any prosecution I have yet seen for causing death by driving without due care and attention.

Last one of those I dealt with, a lovely young student on her way to her dream work experience placement, 6 months driving experience, had never
performed an emergency stop since her test. Lights changed to red on 50mph road. Not speeding. Should I stop, should I go? Dithered and got it wrong. 1.2 seconds after lights went red she hit the pedestrian who set off on the light change. 2 families' lives ruined. Jail.

Last direct responsibility for taking of a life I dealt with - put it this way, multiple blunt trauma prior to asphyxiation. Jail, but hardly the same ball park.

I appreciate the OP's reported case is different but death by motoring is rarely black and white and often has no easy answers for society. It's usually distinguishable from murder though.

I'm going to chance my arm here but my theory is that, firstly, he is an actual solicitor and, secondly, it's a typo.

Nearly as worrying as a doctor that can't use full stops...

Yawn.

I thought he was a Barrister.

Isn't that better than a solicitor?
