Might seem a basic question however when new tyres are needed do you need to have them fitted by an OPC to maintain the warranty? Similarly break pads and other maintenance/wear and tear type consumables.

Ref tyres, they just need to be Porsche approved but dont need to be fitted by a OPC. Ref the other stuff, to maintain the warranty it has to be serviced by OPC.

No, but they need to be Porsche approved rubber - i.e. N-rated.

ETA - that's what happens when I take a call when posting - what he said ^^^

Actually no. I don't know about servicing, but other maintenance can be done by a specialist providing the work is up to standard and official Porsche parts are used. Martin at OPC Leicester told me that if you go down that route, the specialist would need to provide you with an official Porsche invoice of the parts they have ordered from Porsche, rather than just their own invoice.

This is what OPC Leicester told me with regards to the extended warranty, though the small print could be different on a new car/approved used warranty.

There's some conjecture on that - as I understood it the warranty from new (i.e. manufacturer) allows you to use an indy, whereas a warranty from an OPC for a used Porsche, means you must use OPC to maintain warranty...

My OPC policy ( Taken out in March 2011 ) doesn't say anything about using an OPC.

The only clause says maintenance must be in line with the manufacturer's recommendations and that approved parts must be used.

The clause that others have quoted about only using Porsche approved dealers is not in my policy.

I believe Actus Reus and others are correct. there is a difference between the new car warranty (form POrsche) and the extend warranty on used cars which is offered by POrsche but I believe underwritten by someone else.

I am no legal expert but I believe that for the Manufacturer warranty (from new) you don't require to use an OPC but you do have to use OPC parts. For the extended warranty there is a clause somewhere to the effect that repairs have to be carried out to porsche-approved standards, and if they only approve themselves they you can be in deep water if you go elsewhere

do you need the same speed rating between the fronts and rears if the N rating is the same?

rears are worn but fronts are still ok but can't seem to find ZR rating... michelin PS2s...

The extended warranty on used cars is also a Porsche Warranty, from the manufacturer, its not underwritten by anyone else.

But it is not governed by the same aspects of consumer law (not being a NEW warranty) and so can be more restrictive in its conditions.

That's what I'm trying to say.

I have an extended ( used car ) warranty from OPC.

There is NO clause about using OPC for servicing / repairs. Only that approved parts must be used.

The policy must have changed, I have read the whole thing and the clause is NOT there!!
