Question for 997 owners with kids

So I have read all the threads covering the child seat options and pushchairs and I am pretty sure that I can fit my little one (18months) in the back and have a pushchair handy when he does not want to walk...what I do need to know however is some real world experiences as follows:
- With a front facing child seat installed, is there any leg room for the passanger infront (my wife is 5ft2)
- Are here any child seat options that recline a little so that they can go to sleep
- Do your kids enjoy it in the back or are they claustrophobic
- Does the passanger seat move fully out of way so you can get decent access into the back
This car is a weekend car only, I desperatly want to think the 997 is capable as an ocassional small family car unfortunatly this is one element I cannot test myself as I need to buy the car seat post-purchase to ensure correct fit.

Yes
Once the kids are old enough so sit without a child seat it's ok. Just getting the seat in/out is a project. My little one is 18month as well and with her legs stetched out you have to move the seat all the way forward which leaves no room for the wife.

My experience is:
Rear facing child seat in the back seats - forget it as it won't fit
Not much opiton for reclining but removing the rear seat backs will help a bit but it's so much hassle you will probably never do it.

All of the above are even worse in a convertible (apart from dropping the hood to lift them in and out!)

One thing that works well for me is passenger airbag deactivation, so you can put one of the little monsters in the front. That makes life a lot easier.

You have clearly misunderstood the purpose of 911 rear seats.- With a front facing child seat installed, is there any leg room for the passanger infront (my wife is 5ft2)

911 rear seats are there for the sole purpose of purchase justification: "Darling, I really the Porsche 911 so I can get home more quickly to see you and the kids. And you know the best thing? It's got rear seats so we can all go out on family trips".
Once the car is purchased, the wife and children should be allowed nowhere near it and especially not inside it.

Seems I have an issue here then....
Reality is that unless my little boy can get in the back there is no point in buying the car, the chances of me going out for a trip on my own are slim to none. I am sure there are plenty of seat options, but suprised passanger space is totally compromised by these.
I may have to put my Porsche dream on hold a few years.....

Lets face it, its no people carrier, but for journeys of less than an hour it absolutely fine.
If your wife is 5,2 then legroom will not be an issue.

Based on my experience, I have to disagree with most of the early views here...

Yes - have the Porsche child seat and it works well. Clearly there is not huge amount of space (front or back), but we went for a 2 week tour in France with our 2 year old and all the kit and it went really well.

Porsche seat does, but I have to say you are pushing your luck here :-). Frankly, with anything else than the seat fully upright, there will truly be no room at the front

She loves it and an element not to overlook is that the mummy on the passenger seat can reach the floor and catch dropped dummies, books, iPhones, etc... which she could not do in a saloon.

Yes - still not totally easy (as in forget it if you are above 70, with back problems and bad knee). Honestly, if you are decently fit, there will be no problem...

A couple of guys I have worked with have child seats in their 997's.
My daughter (2 1/2) is happy in the back of my 996 and my wife has enough leg room (she is 5'6").
I did remove one of the rear seat backs which allowed me to locate the child seat a couple of inches further back. On the 996 the removal of the back is a 5 minute job. I'm not sure if it is the same for the 997. .

a Maxi Cosi seat definately fits in the back of my 997 GTS, just take out the seat base pad and raise up the front seat and theres plenty of room. Our baby came home from the hospital in the car and loves going into it, turn on the sports exhaust and they fall asleep even quicker, they like the vibration :-)
