I have a deposit on ayellow GTS but I believe it may have been an experience car from Silverstone.

Has anyone been on one of these days and seen how the cars were treated?

Would you buy one at the right price, baring in mind it will have a two year warranty?

For me there would be no 'right price' . No.

I'd consider one.

Have you asked if it was used there? Is it a VAT qualifying car?

Will be phoning in the morning as only just found a video of a same spec car sliding around the skid pan. Decided to do a little research after finding out today it is a one owner car, owned by Porsche GB.

If a low friction surface like that will harm the GTS then I don't know what I'll buy next. I've driven on the kick plate there and wouldn't let that put me off. I guess I'd worry less if it's a PDK.

I wouldn't knowingly buy one, not a chance.

But .... there must be a lot of cars shifted to private buyers once they've been ragged senseless by all and sundry around Silverstone.

My old Spyder was used there. Saw it on YouTube after buying it. No problems.

It's hard to really rag a car at the centre. Has anyone ever managed 4th gear ?

No I wouldn't. I remember all the launch controls I did, let alone all the other 500 or so people.

And I also wouldn't buy an ex-press car either. I know a guy who is a well known photographer for a lot of the car mags and he he has told me some stories. Warrantied or not, I wouldn't touch either.

Look at like this, if i had the money (and a track) would i buy a 2nd hand Formula 1 car driven and raced by Jenson Button......yes of course.
The cars are designed to be driven, and it doesnt look good on Porsche if the cars they use are slipping clutches, binding brakes or soggy suspension. So i expect they are maintained better than most cars that appear on the 2nd hand market, its not exactly as if they would go online and order cheapest wheels or brake pads would they!
Buy with warranty then sleep peacefully at night...........but look out the window at midnight a think "yer bd, your going to pay me back tomorrow are'nt you"!!! lol

Get the over revs checked 1st. I've heard of OPC's refusing extended warranties due to over revs. If it's only had a few then it shouldn't be a problem, but it's in the higher ranges then maybe think again. Or get something in writing from Porsche saying they won't refuse an extened warranty due to incidents that are logged in the cars onboard memory prior to you receiving the car.
That is if you are going to keep it and extend the warranty beyond the 2 years you get with the car. Other than that, I would think it'd be fine. It all depends on the price at the end of the day.

I have done a few of those days David and no, I wouldn't touch an ex-Porsche experience car.

It will probably always have been warmed up and maintained properly. But it has also had a hard life with, in all probability, hudreds of drivers all of whom have driven it like a joyrider. I have driven their cars into the rough more than once and thrashed the bejesus out every one I've been in.

I asked an instructor down there what Porsche does to the cars when they are finished with them. The reply was: "111 point check, new tyres and geometry check. That's it".

You've got a warranty and chances are nothing will go wrong, furthermore a Porsche is more likely to be okay than most other cars, but would you marry a retired porn star?

Whereas marrying a porn star at the start of their career is ok?

I was talking to the editor of a well known performance car magazine just yesterday about this. His view was that press cars are prepared and maintained very differently to others. There's a reason for them having a special build code. He wouldn't worry about buying one.

On the other hand he said he was amazed when he learned that the experience cars are sold as 'ex demo'...

Surely better.
Nice and tight as opposed to loose and baggy.
