Disconnect battery 10mins before is the general advice. This should eliminate the airbag warning light coming on when you put it back together.

You will need to ensure that the steering lock is not engaged as you'll need to be able to turn the wheel to get at the scews that hold the airbag in place but not certain that this needs to be done before you disconnect the battery (probably not) but leaving the ignition on may stop your alarm going off.

Remember to keep the key in the ignition to prevent the alarm from going off before you disconnect the battery.

Thanks for the prompt reply What size is the nut holding the steering wheel on and is it two Torx screws holding the air bag?
