996 Vibration When First Driven
Discussion
A strange thing has been happening with my 996.
When I set off in the morning I drive around 400 yards then am on a dual carriageway, when I get to around 65mph I get a vibration, not unlike a wheel badly out of balance, feels like it is from the back but I'm not certain.
However after around 3-4 miles it goes away, I have usually not had to use the brakes in this time.
In the evening when I leave work I drive a few miles in 30/40 limits and don't get this vibration when I get onto the dual carriageway and up to speed.
There are a couple of rattles from the back of the car and the exhaust sounds like it is on its way out, possibly loose baffles, I did wonder if there could be a connection.
Anyway the car is going in for a service and to get these issues looked at later this week, but I wondered if anyone might have had a similar problem and knows what the outcome - cost - is likely to be.

Really? I've never experienced this in all my years of motoring.
This^^^. There's no doubt that it was the tyres as the problem's gone now the OP has new rubber, but it's an odd one. I'm wondering if it was a combination of wear and lower-than-recommended pressures that allowed the old tyres to flat-spot over night? Or maybe just a faulty pair of tyres? Guess we'll never know.
Edit: I've just noticed the OP's nickname. Now we know - it was a combination of wear and weight that flat-spotted them!

The vibration is caused by your tyres flat spotting over night...once warmed they lose the flat spot, seems to become more apparant as tyres become more worn.

I always got annoyed with the issue where if you reverse on full lock the whole car would judder due to the tyres being 'pulled'...have now give up reversing where possible as it makes the car feel like it's broken.
996 is the only car I've had that does this.
Think it was called the Ackers effect or something.
