993 4s What are they really worth ?
Discussion
Been thinking about a 993 4s for a little while now, seen a couple in the classifieds
1st with 140k for £23,995 and the other was with 83k and was £28,995.
The first with no disrespect sounds alot of money for a 140k car
Views ? or am I just being harsh

I don't understand why 993s are so expensive. OK, it's the last aircooled model, but it doesn't really look like a proper aircooled Porsche, whereas the cheaper 964 looks the part.
I set out thinking that I wanted a 993 (newer car, airbag, revised rear suspension), but changed my mind when I saw the 993 and 964 together up close. I prefer the classic looks of the 964, and the £10k saving was worth having.

If the 140k one is the one I think it is - down in the South West?
It has had a fortune spent on it, full glass out respray in the last few years, full engine rebuild, everything replaced..
Pricing these up is very difficult..
£25-£50k dependent on miles and condition.
£30-£35k should get you a good one

That would make it sound like a bargain at £24k to me, and it should be a far better car than an un-restored one with a lower number on the milometer. It has had a fortune spent on it, full glass out respray in the last few years, full engine rebuild, everything replaced..

Good 964's are only a smidgeon cheaper than 993's now. I dont believe that there is currently a £10k price difference, more like £3-5k? You can get a reasonable 993 for under £20k.I set out thinking that I wanted a 993 (newer car, airbag, revised rear suspension), but changed my mind when I saw the 993 and 964 together up close. Preference is down to er.. personal preference. Some like the 964 shape and traditional suspension handling character. Some prefer the 993's prettier looks and superior weissach axle. Arguably, the 993 is the ultimate air cooled 911, but this depends on your definition of 'ultimate'.
Me? I love them both for different reasons. If I was buying one now, it would be a difficult choice between 964 & 993C2. Or 3.2....!

When assessing value for these cars, supply and demand aside, it's all about condition and provenance. They're pretty old cars now and many will be due some expensive work if they've just trundled along on basic annual services. Wishbones, cam covers, paintwork, bumper struts, door straps etc are all common issues.
I've looked at many over the years and the correlation between mileage (or number of owners) and value really isn't particularly strong. If that 140k car really has had all the work done, it might be a good deal but it needs a proper inspection. You could easily spend £5-10k getting an average one perfect.
I searched for a long time to find my 993TT, bought the best one around, and I still spent quite a bit after buying it to make it perfect. You just can't tell what it's worth until you check the condition thoroughly.

Bit of a joke i think.
The 140k mile one is my old car ..I spent circa £6k on it (late 2008)
Since then in 3 years the next owner had even more done
I bought it off the 2nd owner, i have loads of pics of the work being done
I reget selling it (and tried to buy it back), 993's are not the bullet proof machines suggested, there is a long long string of stuff that needs doing every decade....either you find a car that needs this stuff doing, a car that's had it done or a very expensive one in original condition.
Whatever you do make sure you don't buy a mid price one that needs lots of stuff doing.
Note no mention of miles in my post, condition is everything. (unfortunately values are most based on miles)
There is a bog std c2 man on eBay for early to mid teens add £10k of work and you could have a top 993 - worth every penny if you intend to keep it for years - IMHO

The 140k ones price of £24k looks sensible in view of all the work done on it.It has had a fortune spent on it, full glass out respray in the last few years, full engine rebuild, everything replaced..

Regarding prices
40-50k private cars are selling for £36/37k trade they selling for £39,995
from that point I would knock approximately £1500 to £2000 for every extra 10k miles and Tiptronics are 20 to 25% cheaper and for a C2S they are about 10% behind the C4S.
Remember only 181 were imported to UK so its rarity value and if you dont believe the prices. Look at the adverts you have two sub 50k trade cars selling for £39,995 in the last few weeks and a sub 40k private car for around £37 to £37,750k.
Half the C4S' than C2S' in the UK, so its rarer, only available in 6 Speed Manual, Unlike the 2S.
I've owned both, as well as a C2, the Narrow body C2 was the best drive, followed by the C2S, followed by the C4S - it just felt heavy.
They are not cheap to run, the newest car you are going to find will be 14 years old now.
