PSE - exhaust pipes
Discussion
Random question on the 991: I was always under the impression that ticking the PSE bring along the nice twin-tailpipes which Porsche show in their catalogue. Is this not the case?
Excerpt from page 38 of the 991 catalogue (next to a photo of the pipes):
"A selectable twin-tube sports exhaust system featuring distinctive polished stainless-steel tailpipes is available as an option. Activated by a button, it produces an even more intensive sports car sound."

only difference between standard 991 C2S exhaust and PSE is the finish on the tail pipes.Excerpt from page 38 of the 991 catalogue (next to a photo of the pipes):

..so they look the same as the non-PSE other than the chrome? The picture in the catalogue (which has been updated for the Cab) has the twin pipes joined. I'd prefer the ones as advertised. Anyone else complained, or at least noticed this?

Am I reading that right? You're suggesting that the only difference between PSE and standard is the finish on the pipes?there is of course flaps etc on the PSE
the 997/987 cars you could order the sports tailpipes(exclusive)for about £500.these were the same tailpipes on the pse.i know the gen2 997 pse tailpipes were different so could be the same for the 991?my spyder has pse and the tailpipes are the same as my gen1 caymans which had the chrome finish s/s pipes
The sports tailpipes (997 and 991) are not the same as the PSE pipes.
Sports tailpipes without a PSE system are simply stainless versions of the standard finisher pipes, which are a 'one into two' and fit over the single exhaust pipe from the silencer.
PSE pipes are straight through finishers which sit over the pair of exhaust pipes from each silencer.

I've seen some pics of the 991 Sports Exhaust (PSE) somewhere but can't find them now. Essentially, the big centre silencer is replaced with 2 smaller silencers and an X-pipe. From memory, the vacuum-operated valves, when in loud mode, bypass the side cans and divert the exhaust gases directly to one tailpipe on each side via a second pass through the small silencers at the back of the car.
Edit: This means the 991 PSE tailpipes should be a proper 2-pipe per side design, not a 2-into-1 and the standard tailpipes won't fit.
