Hi - quick question about clutch pedal pressure. I've seen a number of threads about 'heavy' clutch pedals, and mention of the pedal being very heavy with the engine off. Mine's the same pressure when the engine's on or off - does this mean the accumulator needs replacing? It's quite heavy, but not ridiculously so.

Clutch should be fairly light with engine running and remain so after engine is stopped for a fair few presses of pedal (15-20 from memory, but could be more). If pedal is heavy and you can't feel any difference then accumulator is most likely leaking. New accumulator approximately 80 quid plus fitting...or if you fancy having a go...

EvoSlayer - thanks very much. Exactly the info I was looking for. I'll check, as you suggest. I would have a go myself, but car is under dealers own warranty, so I'll be taking it back!

A heavy/hard to depress Turbo clutch with the engine shut off or after having been off a while is a good sign the accumulator is not working properly.

A hard to depress clutch pedal with the engine running is a sign the hydraulic power system is not working properly, or another possibility is the clutch is worn and the extra force required arises from the reduction in mechanical leverage. At least with the cars with non-power assist clutches an overly hard to depress clutch arises from wear, a lot of wear.

Are you sure the clutch is quite heavy, abnormally heavy compared to other Turbo clutches?

What were you driving before the Turbo? My Turbo's clutch is quite a bit lighter than that of my Boxster's clutch. And the Boxster's clutch feel is fairly light, though it has exceptional feel.

I read below where the car is covered under warranty so best thing is to take the car in and have the symptom diagnosed and addressed.

Sincerely,

Rockster.
