Has put me off owning a GT2 - looks like a hedge seeking missile... Great vid though.

Thanks for finding this. I saw it at least five or six years ago and thought I'd bookmarked it. Alas I hadn't, and despite searching all over the interweb for it, couldn't re-find it.

A superb display of car control.

I've always toyed with the idea of one of these, but when I see videos like this it really does make me think if I could handle one. Living in Scotland and enjoying Highland hoons wonder if my hoon would come to a premature end if there was a bit of rain. The 996tt was 100% exploitable in anything this side of snow and the 7GT3 with its TC is comfortable when pressing on, even when damp. Not sure a GT2 would be!!

It's only showboating, driven with even a modicum of restraint they're pussycats. Get one with well set upo geometry and a good remap and they're great cars. Not as tactile as a GT3, but still great fun, albeit in a different way to the NA cars.

the 996 GT2 I drove seemed like an absolute pussy cat, then I pushed on harder down a moderately sharp set of bends and suddenly, fk me I was passing solids. I am currently looking at buying one for weekend use since my weekend car (C4S) is about to become the daily commute (Hampton court ftl)and I figure since I'm approaching the 25 barrier I might well find reasonable insurance \o/.

I'm not saying I've not had my "moments" behind the wheel of the two I've owned (and done nearly 25K miles in)but those moments have always been down to one thing, and one thing only. That being the nut holding the wheel.

As slippydiff has said get one set up properly in relation to geo & suspension & a decent set of tyres & the feeedback & steering accuracy is astounding smile

Incredible cars that never ever disappoint & acceleration is endless.
Yes you do need to show some respect but that is the same for any RWD car with decent bhp & torque.

Very easy to extract more bhp & performance from also once you do get used to the power smile

I'm with Slippy on this (almost literally as I have his old car).

Suprisingly docile until you wake them up and to be fair they take some wakeninng. Howver once you have asked those two big turbos to do their work the power just bonkers. Even in a straight line on a good road you sometimes need to anticiapte a bit of wriggling about if surface changes of the typres aren't warm etc.

Not a car I can ever see myself driving hard with confidence, whereas I could manage this with my Exige within the first week I had it, but welly worth owning if you like your cars and fancy something extreme for a modest outlay.

Agreed. Mine wasn't setup very well and I'm a very average driver and I managed to keep out of the hedge and still enjoy owning it for a couple of years, so they can't be that bad!

Through going through the learning curve eek i would suggest before any spirited drive you warm ones tyres up.
Yes they are pussy cats but they are also fully blown wild tigers so you get both extremes which is great for a weekend toy.
Mine as it was owned by a very successful professional racing driver has been set up lovely with very little under-steer apparently, i haven't tested it to extreme i hasten to add!

Oh yes those tyres do need to be warm, as one dry day in December proved - sideways in a flash

In 2001 that wasn't far off, £1 = EUR1.6 (ish)

Have to agree, I cant think of anything that would be safer(monitory!!), more special, faster and reliable to put 40 - 45k into.

Its probably not the horse power that would worry me on a RWD, its the torque, thats what breaks the traction! My old 996tt hand oodles of it, so can only begin to think what a GT2 would be like with a couple of lit K24s eek
