How much should I ask for my 2.5 Boxster?
Discussion
I have had my 2.5 Boxster from new, (August 97), and have decided it's time for it to go.
It has only done about 42K miles but its looking pretty street worn as it's been living on the street for the last 5 years.
It's silver, hard top, 17" wheels, upgraded sound, but no aircon as not exactly needed in Edinburgh! It has a Boxster private plate which I would be prepared to leave on the car.
I want to price to sell, so what do you guys think I should ask for it?
Thanks
Simon

Difficult to say as you have some plus points, and some negative points......
One owner is good, as is low mileage but you don't mention service history.
It's an early car, you admit the condition isn't exactly 'A1' and unfortunately your location isn't the most 'central'
As a recent buyer of 'Poverty Pork' we looked at early Boxsters and if it's got all the history, and the car isn't too ratty I'd say it's worth a punt at £4k
Depends how long the MOT/TAX is and how long to a service really as well.

Spend a couple of hundred on an at least half decent detail, pitch at £4k and be prepared to reduce if no interest and you are keen to move it. The location is a factor - if nobody local goes in for it then it will have to be cheap to get people to travel (maybe down at £3500). List the hard top as 'by separate negotiation' - include it if someone pays asking, eBay if they would rather haggle.

Call Henry at 911Virgin and see what he'd give for it.
That might be hypothetically - a trader is going to have to pitch very low to make money on a cheap car that they have to collect from Scotland to South East England, so I suspect that Henry would as a business necessity have to low ball any offer for a car that he would probably bug price at 4-4.5k... ??DiscoColin said:

42000 miles and 1 owner, has to be £5k and I wouldn't let the fact it is in Edinburgh put the price down, there isa lot off pork in edinburghEdited by DiscoColin on Wednesday 18th April 19:01
Manual? Red interior? We need pictures!
It seems a bit sad that an unmolested one-owner, low mileage 15 yr old sports car like this could change hands for circa 7.5% of the original inflation adjust cost price (£60k in today's money) but that may be the reality...
Someone needs to tuck it away.

Thanks for your advise folks.
It's a manual with full black leather. you are right about the value, I paid over £43K way back when... such is life. I have a mint 1996 993 C2 with 30K miles on the clock which I think is going up in value rather than down so some you win some you lose.
Good idea re Kenny Dunn. I have someone who seems keen so will give him the opportunity first.
Cheers

Not totally convinced v low miles is that attractive on these cars, either. Think a few more reassure the bearing and cylinder sleeves are good 'uns. That said, you do have the option of upgrading a the bearing.

There's the thing, though.
Generally, it's only the smallest percentage of Porsche owners who know about these things.
To the majority of Boxster/996 buyers who dont frequent sites such as PH, a very low miles car will be a massive attraction and I would have thought a better (in their eyes) buying proposition for them.

No chance. Where the money in selling one of those. Plus by the owner's admission it sounds a bit tatty and they don't do tatty cars. At the very least they're going to want to see it first and thats not going to be easy from Edinburgh.I reckon H would go for at least 5k Bug price.
