What's the issue I'll face? Seen a set of 19's from a 996 Turbo and wondering if it's worth a punt as they're a good price. I've read that a 996 C4S is 22mm wider than a 997 C2S (which I have) and people run spacers unto 20mm on the rear of C2S's, so it sounds like it would work? Failing that, I have a place that could machine the back faces as a favour.

Or is my fag-packet maths nonsense?

What are the wheels? Are they 997's?

Spacers are generally used to fit narrow bodied wheels to wide bodied cars, rather than vice versa.

Machining the back faces of wheels sounds very scary to me - is this tried/tested practice?

p.s. I suggest you get all of the details of the wheels you have, and those of the wheels you are proposing, and then have a play with this.

If you have 'inner clerance issues', this can be resolved with spacers (within reason).

If you have outer position issues (i.e. protrudes beyond the bodywork at the 12'o clock position) then I believe it's an MOT failure. There is also the potential for wheelarch clashes.

Good luck. thumbup

Techart 19's off a 996 turbo:

11x19in rears, ET25 with 295.30.19s, and 8.5x19in fronts, ET40 with 235.35.19s

So far as I know, my wheels are:

11x19in rears, ET67, and 8.5x19in fronts, ET55

Fronts will be fine - effectively just fitting a 15mm spacer.
Rears - ouch - if you have somebody who can machine the inner face get them to take 27mm off - which will give you the same effect as at the front. Car will look good with a wide stance as you have added 30mm to the front and rear track..........only downside is tech art wheels weigh more than the moon!!

Enjoy!

yikes that sounds a bit scary. I think I'd look for alternative wheels that will fit properly and be safe.

So do you guys think aftermarket wheels are all cast at specific offsets? Nope, they're usually cast at a 'master' offset, then machined down for specific vehicles. The key is making sure you don't machine the mounting face down so there's only a few mm of metal left.

Yeah, think 27mm may be pushing it though! And didn't know Techarts were so heavy! Ta!
